The parties agree that professional development includes a diverse range of activities, including but not limited to formal academic programs; short-term continuing education activities; certification programs; independent learning committee participation. The parties recognize their joint responsibility in and commitment to active participation in the area of professional development.

ARTICLE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. The hospital recognizes the importance of staff development and shall endeavour to support in-service programmes and staff attendance at professional meetings and courses which are directly related to work responsibilities. It is understood that professional staff members shall be consulted in determining departmental educational expenditures. Employees of each department shall have an opportunity to meet collectively with the Department Head or designate at least once a year to participate in discussions which determine training and development needs and priorities in the department. Based on such consultation, managers shall determine what courses or conferences shall be attended subject to the limits on available funding. Opportunities for training and development shall be equitably distributed amongst the employees in each department subject to the employee’s suitability and availability and operational requirements. ARTICLE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. The Board shall establish an annual Professional Development budget in the amount of for support staff. The Union will establish a Committee to approve Professional Development Conferences or programs (excluding Union business) for support staff. The Union shall notify the Superintendent of Business of the name, conference being attended, and monies approved from the Professional Development budget for each conference approved by the Professional Development Committee. The Board shall forward a copy of any Professional Development Conference notification it receives to the Union. That in establishing the initial salary of an employee, consideration may be given for previous experience in similar type of work, but in no case will the adjustment exceed two increments. The employee will be paid at the probationary salary rate and if probation is completed satisfactorily, the employee will receive credit for previous experience at the end of the probationary period. After completion of the probationary period, the employee must be recommended to the Board for permanent employment by the Supervisor to continue as an employee with the North Shore Board of Education. It is understood that an employee who receives training under this provision need not be considered for any further vacancies for a period of six (6) months from the date she is placed in the position.

The parties recognize their joint responsibility in and commitment to active participation in the area of professional development. mittee There shall be a committee to address the planning of professional development initiatives for nurses as described in Article This committee shall include representatives of the Hospital, one of whom shall be the Chief Nursing Officer or designate and another, a Human Resources representative; and of the Association, one of whom shall be the Bargaining Unit President or designate. The number of representatives is set out in the Appendix of Local Provisions. The membership of the Committee may be adjusted by mutual agreement, but at least fifty (50%) percent will be elected by the Association membership. The parties may agree to incorporate other disciplines into the Committee. The Hospital agrees to pay for time spent during regular working hours for representatives of the Association attending such meetings, and will provide replacement staff where needed for such absences. Where a nurse is requiredto attend such meetings outside of her or his regularly scheduled working hours, the nurse shall be paid for all time spent in attendance at such meetings at either her or his regular straight time hourly rate of pay or elect to receive lieu time off. Where a nurse elects equivalent time off, such time off must be taken within the period set out in the Appendix of Local Provisions or payment in accordance with the former option shall be made. The Committee shall meet every two (2) months unless otherwise agreed. Where possible, agenda items will be exchanged in writing at least five (5) calendar days prior to the meeting. ARTICLE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. Two Professional Development days per year will be provided to employees Effective September three Professional Development days per year will be provided to all employees of the bargaining unit. The focus for at least two of these days will be job skills specific in-servicing. A joint Professional Development Committee will develop annual activity plans consistent with Board policy related to effective principles of staff development. Such committee shall consist of up to three (3) representatives from the Board and up to three (3) representatives from the Bargaining Unit appointed by the Bargaining Unit Executive. The Bargaining Unit will have formal representation on the District Staff Development Council The Bargaining Unit recognizes that IT Department employees may be assigned duties during the three Professional Development Days identified under The Board agrees that in the event such duties are assigned, three alternate professional development days shall be scheduled for these employees.

  • Continuing Professional Development The Official Agency shall provide appropriate training for staff performing official controls, enabling them to undertake their duties competently and to carry out official controls in a consistent manner, as per legislative requirements. The Official Agency shall identify training needs for staff performing official controls and ensure that staff carrying out official controls are kept up to date in their area of competence and develop specialised expertise, in partnership with the Authority and other Local Authorities. While the provision of training is the primary responsibility of the Official Agency, the Authority may provide training interventions where the Official Agency has highlighted areas where training is required. The Authority will endeavour to facilitate networking and collaboration with other Official Agencies to assist in improving knowledge in such areas. The Authority will provide e-learning resources and training for official control staff so as to promote a consistent understanding and application of new legislation, guidance or procedures, as appropriate. The Official Agency shall support participants in using e-learning resources, disseminating knowledge or skills acquired and encourage the application of learning gained through the Authority’s training in official control activities. The Official Agency shall ensure that contractors used in the performance of the Service Contract provide evidence of Continuous Professional Development and Compliance with this section. Where staff from the Official Agency need to travel outside the Official Agency functional area to attend training courses/meetings, this shall be facilitated by the Official Agency. The Official Agency in partnership with the Authority shall develop and implement training programmes for all staff engaged in the performance of the Service Contract. Where staff have participated in Better Training for Safer Food (BTSF) the training content shall be disseminated to relevant staff/contractors in the Official Agency and other local authorities in partnership with the Authority.

  • Professional Development Funds 23.1.1 Two Professional Development Funds, a Professional Development Support Fund and an Education Leave Fund, shall be established to support professional development activities as defined in 23.2. On April 1st of each year, the College will allocate an amount equal to no less than 0.9% of total faculty salary (exclusive of severance payments) to the Professional Development Support Fund, and an amount equal to no less than 0.6% of total faculty salary to the Educational Leave Fund. Any unused balances in these funds shall carry over to the next budget year.
