Tetra Tech has long focused on helping its clients address water, environment, infrastructure, resource management, energy, and international development needs. We lead and support programs that minimize our collective impacts on the environment—through the solutions we provide for our clients; through our procurement and subcontracting practices; by the processes we use within Tetra Tech to promote sustainable practices, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impacts; and through employee-supported activities such as volunteer work and fundraising campaigns. Our vision of the future is to incorporate the concepts of sustainability more fully into our daily operations and to follow the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development goal to “meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Tetra Tech is in a unique position to further this vision and has the ability to provide innovative solutions to meet pressing global challenges. On a daily basis and on a global scale, our work plays a direct role in helping to achieve the balance that will allow future generations to access the necessary resources to meet all of their needs. The focus of Tetra Tech’s Sustainability Program is to sustain the growth of its business, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and to provide an exceptional work environment for its associates, all while providing better solutions for its clients. In 2018 Tetra Tech joined the United Nations (UN) Global Compact to advance its commitment to sustainability. This corporate sustainability initiative supports the UN’s efforts to end extreme poverty, fight inequality, and address climate change. I am pleased that we are integrating the UN Global Compact principles into our strategy, culture, and daily operations, while working on projects that advance resilience and the UN’s development goals. School Specialty’s Continued Commitment to Sustainability and Engaging Employees, Students, and Customers on Their Green Journey. School Specialty, LLC has achieved Platinum status with the Green Business Bureau. The company joined the GBB in 2019 and has leveraged the platform and apps to manage their sustainability initiatives and track their progress. School Specialty, LLC completed enough initiatives to reach 400 EcoPoints™ to earn the GBB Platinum Seal. The company is committed to protecting the environment, engaging employees and customers in their sustainability efforts, and saving money through more efficient operations. They continue to utilize the GBB framework and online tools to become greener and meet their sustainability goals. School Specialty was looking for an opportunity to take small steps towards becoming a more environmentally friendly organization for both customers and employees. As a distributor of highly consumable products, it was important for them to look internally at what they could, and should, be doing to reduce their large footprint. Some of the activities which helped School Specialty achieve Platinum status toward green certification was the creation Green Teams throughout the company which served as the initial supporters of greening the business, enlisting and informing all employees of key activities, assessing where the organization was at in terms of green efforts and creating programs where employees can engage in green activities. Low Effort, High Impact Green Initiatives Like many organizations, School Specialty and their Project Green Teams initially focused on low-hanging fruit when the program first started. Putting focus on changes that include recycling of paper, adding low water flow censors, changing out paper cups in the cafeterias to ceramic, ensuring that all cleaning supplies are green. Within the past 4 years we have introduced: • Battery powered Compaction equipment including Rammers & Plates • Battery powered material handling Buggies Multiquip has previously developed and now offer: • Environmental spill containment basins for our WhisperWatt generators • GloBug non-glare lighting and light towers utilizing low energy LED lights• Welders employing our ‘E-Mode’ and ‘SmartStick’ technology which reduces fuel consumption, emissions, and noise levels • Generator refurbishment program which includes replacing older engines with EPA Tier 4 Final engines which meet or exceed current EPA emissions requirements. SCS Global Services, a leading third-party sustainability certifier, evaluated the Fellowes contract interior products to measure them against multiple criteria defined in the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard. Included among the 70 products is Rising™ monitor arms, which launched on the market in late February by redefining the monitor arm as a piece of functional beauty that enhances any workspace, all while adhering to the sustainability standards required to achieve LEVEL 2 certification. “Sustainability is a core strategy with Fellowes.
