THE WORKDAY Clause Samples

The "Workday" clause defines the standard hours and days during which work is to be performed under the contract. Typically, it specifies the start and end times for each workday, as well as which days of the week are considered regular working days, such as Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. This clause ensures that both parties have a clear understanding of when work is expected to occur, helping to prevent disputes over scheduling and overtime, and providing a framework for managing work hours and productivity.
THE WORKDAY. The basic workday for full-time teachers will be as referenced below. Within the basic workday a 25 minute duty-free lunch time shall be provided, except in emergency situations, to each teacher. Except for the duty-free lunch, the time within the basic workday that is not specifically scheduled for instructional duties is referred to as planning time and shall be used for preparation, conferences, meetings, and other professional tasks. Such time that occurs prior to the beginning of the student school day at the middle school level, after the end of the student day at the high school level, and before or after the student school day and during specials times at elementary level is for collaborative planning, general school improvement activities, professional development, and individual teacher preparation. The above is specified in Appendix A-1 and Appendix A-2 School Calendar consistent with the following: collaborative planning on Tuesday, PD/Individual planning, and general school improvement activities and staff meetings on Thursday. The first Tuesday of each month will be indentified for cross-building collaboration between Zemmer Campus and LHS as directed by building administrators. The length of the teacher workday for collaborative planning, PD or SIP activities on the 6 days a month at the middle and high school level or 4 days a month at the elementary level will be as follows: * On the 7 days during the school year used to meet State Professional Development requirements the ending/beginning time for elementary schools will be 10 minutes later/earlier than referenced above. On the remaining days not identified for collaboration, PD or SIP activities, the teacher workday will be established as follows: For individuals assigned to multi-level positions or single-level positions which have hours flexed from the times listed above, an indivdual teacher workday will be established consistent with the total amount of time work...

(b) The District may establish a flexible workday for the middle and high school level. A flexible workday is one that consists of seven (7) consecutive hours of work, as mandated in item (a) above, but has different starting or ending times than the regular workday schedule for the particular building. (c) A flexible workday may not begin before 7:00 a.m., nor end after 4:15 p.m. (d) Teachers may volunteer for a flexible schedule as follows: (i) On or before May 1st, the building administrator shall post notice of the class (es) to be taught outside the normal workday and other related assignments that fall outside the normal workday. (ii) The posting shall include, but not be limited to: the name of the course, the certification area required to teach the course, and the specific time slot of the course to be taught. In the case of a duty assignment, the specific time slot shall be noted as well as a description of the particular duty.
