Christmas/New Year’s Scheduling. K-1 Employees will receive at least five (5) consecutive days off at Christmas or New Year's. The Hospital will provide time off from the completion of the night shift the day before the holiday that the Employee is granted (either Christmas Day or New Year's Day). Christmas will include Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day and New Year's will include New Year's Eve Day and New Year's Day. Where an Employee requests not to be scheduled off five (5) consecutive days at Christmas or New Year’s, such an Employee is to put her/his request in writing to the Clinical Manager.

Christmas/New Year’s Scheduling. Employees shall be scheduled off work for a minimum of six (6) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Years unless the employee requests otherwise. Time off at Christmas and New Years shall include the period of December 24th day tour to the December 26th inclusive and the December 31st tour to the January 2nd day tour inclusive. Employees must request either Christmas or New Years time off by October 15th. Employees will alternate Christmas and New Years time off on a yearly basis. The shift schedule shall be posted by November 15th. The scheduling provisions in this Article will be waived between December 15th and January 15th to provide for Christmas and New Years scheduling. Employees may be given time off at both Christmas and New Year’s at the discretion of the Hospital. Where the hospital exercises its discretion, time off will rotate amongst all employees on the basis of seniority. The employee would be required to maintain the original rotation for the following Christmas/New Year Schedule.

The employer will schedule members to work the holiday in a fair and equitable manner amongst the work group who normally perform the work, unless members volunteer or self-schedule themselves to work the holiday.

Christmas/New Year’s Scheduling. FULL-TIME/REGULAR PART-TIME The scheduling regulations set out herein may be waived between December 15th and January 10th so that an employee will be scheduled off work for not less than five (5) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Year's. This provision will not apply to areas where employees normally work Monday to Friday and are not normally scheduled to work on paid holidays. A preference list for time off at Christmas or New Year's will be posted by September 15th of each year. The employees will indicate their preference by October 15th of each year. The Hospital will post the work schedule that includes Christmas and New Year's no later than November 15th of each year. If employees are able to be off work both Christmas and New Year’s it will be offered to the employees on a rotating basis from year to year in order of seniority.

Christmas/New Year’s Scheduling. All employees will be scheduled a minimum of three (3) days off at either Christmas (Christmas Eve, Day and Boxing Day) or New Year’s (December 31, Jan. 1, 2) on a rotational basis each year. Employees may elect, on a list posted by the Employer for the month of October, to defer the use of the three holiday lieu days being assigned during this time, with the understanding that they may not be entitled to the minimum days off. Christmas/New Year’s Scheduling. The master schedule from previous years will be maintained to be used in subsequent years. The Hospital will endeavour to schedule a nurse off work for five (5) consecutive days but not less than four (4) consecutive days at either Christmas or New Year’s in alternate years except in areas where nurses work Monday to Friday or unless mutually agreed to otherwise. For the purposes of this provision, job-sharers will be considered as regular part-time. Nurse(s) who work in areas which normally are not scheduled to work on weekends or paid holidays may choose to utilize banked or vacation time during the holiday closure period. Vacation requests must be made, in writing, by September 1st of each year. Notwithstanding Article O, it is understood that vacation time may be converted to banked time, provided the nurse(s) submits the conversion request by November 1st. Nurse(s) who do not choose to utilize banked or vacation time may be reassigned to anther department during the holiday closure period. The scheduling provisions in Article N will be waived between December 15th and January 15th to provide for Christmas and New Year’s scheduling. Nurses will have the opportunity to self-schedule for the period December 15th to January 15th. It is understood that the scheduling guidelines in this provision will be followed. For the purpose of self-scheduling, nurses will have until October 1st to work on the schedule. The Hospital will post the final schedule by November 1st.

In the event that nurses can be granted both Christmas and New Year’s Day off the most senior nurse, on a rotating basis, who has requested these days off shall be given the opportunity to take both off. For those employees who have been granted time off at Christmas, the Employer will provide Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day off. For those employees who have been granted time off at New Year's, the Employer will provide New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day off. In the event of conflict, bargaining unit seniority shall be the decisive factor. Written requests for this time off must be received by the Director of Resident Care by November 1st. Christmas and New Year's time off shall be posted by November 15th. Regular scheduling may be waived from the 15th of December to the 15th of January in order to accommodate the employees during this period. At the request of the employee, the four (4) consecutive days off may be scheduled during the period of December 15th to January 15th to facilitate their cultural differences replacing the days off noted above.
Christmas/New Year’s Scheduling. In order to enable all nurses to receive five (5) consecutive days off at either Christmas or New Year’s, during the four weeks which include December 15 to January 15, the master rotation may be suspended. If requested, time off at Christmas shall include December 24, 25 and 26, and time off at New Year’s shall include December 31 and January 1. A nurse may request in writing to receive less than five (5) consecutive days off. By September 15th, the Hospital will post the shifts worked by the nurses during the Christmas/New Year’s period of the previous year by the deadline listed in the Long Term Vacation Planning calendar, nurses shall submit their request for Christmas or New Year’s off. In addition, where a unit of nurses wishes to self schedule over the Christmas and New Year’s period, such schedule will conform with the collective agreement and will be submitted first to the Bargaining Unit executive who will forward it to the Hospital for approval by the submission deadline established in G.3 (b) i). The Hospital shall confirm the schedule or provide the amended schedule by the approval/denial deadline established in G.3 (b) i). Unless otherwise agreed, the Hospital will endeavour to grant nurses the Christmas or New Year’s period off, on an alternating basis from year to year in their work unit. Where conflict occurs, the preference will be granted on a seniority basis. Nurses shall not be required, but may elect to use vacation, accumulated overtime or LOA in order to receive five consecutive days off. The request must be received in writing. When extra time off is available during the period defined as Christmas or New Years in Article E.4(b), it shall be offered in descending order of seniority to those nurses who have been scheduled to work those shifts provided the requirement of a reasonable staffing mix is met. Working Christmas is defined as working a maximum of two shifts between the hours of 07:00 on December 24th and 19:00 on December 26th. New Year’s is defined as working at a minimum, shift(s) between the hours of 19:00 on December 31st and 07:00 January 2nd. After the Christmas schedule has been approved, if a nurse is granted a position where such nurse is replacing another nurse, she shall be required to assume the Christmas or New Year’s schedule of the replaced nurse. This provision shall not apply to any area where nurses normally work Monday to Friday and are not normally scheduled to work on paid holidays.
