Special Project Employees. Employees hired for special projects as mutually agreed between the Employer and the Union or employees hired under the auspices of the federal or provincial Special Employment Programs; these employees shall be considered terminated for cause upon completion of their project or programs.

Special Project Employees. “Special Project Employees” are employees hired for a specified period of time, not to exceed six (6) months, for special projects, as mutually agreed between the Employer and the BCGEU, including employees hired under the auspices of a Federal or Provincial special employment program. Such employees shall be members of the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union and will be entitled to all benefits of the Collective Agreement as a casual employee. If the special project continues past the six (6)-month period, the Parties may mutually agree to a further period of six (6) months. If the special project continues into a second (2nd) year, the position shall be posted.
Special Project Employees. The parties mutually agree that Regina Transition House may hire special project employees and students subject to separate funding arrangements for up to one year. Renewal of project contract will be discussed between the parties. These special positions shall not displace nor replace existing positions or staff. In each instance, the employer shall work cooperatively with the employees and the union representatives in the development of the duties wages, benefits and hours of work of the project employees and summer students. LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING #4 Health & Welfare Trust Associate Members The Parties agree that it is beneficial to have the out-of-scope employees join the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union (SGEU) Health & Welfare Trust as an associate member. As associate members they will receive the same benefits as the employees of Regina Transition House Local (5147). The Employees agree to support the out-of-scope employees in joining the SGEU Health & Welfare Trust as an Associate Group. The out-of-scope employees forgo their right and ability to choose their levels and options of coverage under the SGEU Health & Welfare Trust and agree to accept the same coverage as the employees. The out-of-scope employees acknowledge the SGEU Health & Welfare Trust Plan Text governs this benefit. The out-of-scope employees further acknowledge that they are not entitled to be a member of the Board of Trustees and will not be entitled to vote on any matter pursuant to the Plan Text or SGEU Constitution. Current participants of the Health & Welfare Trust plan shall not experience interruptions to their benefits should they become part of the Associate Group, provided the Associate Membership Fee has been paid to SGEU. Any new participant to this group, upon receipt of the Associate Membership Fee, shall serve any waiting period as set out in the Plan Text. Special Project Employees. (a) Special project employees are employees hired for a specified period of time in order to perform a specific task, project or campaign. The funds to pay for the position are received under a time defined contract. Special project employees will not replace any bargaining unit work. Special project employees may, with advance notice, be dismissed prior to completion of the specified term. Union dues will be remitted by Employer to the Union.

Special Project Employees. The length of a special project will not exceed one year unless mutually agreed to by the Employer and the Union. These employees’ services shall be considered terminated upon completion of the special project if they were external hires. Those hired into special project positions as internal applicants will revert back to their previous position or status upon the expiration of the special project position, and maintain their previous status while working in the position.

Should the funding for the initial project be for a period up to but not exceeding 12 months, the Union agrees to the approve the extended time provided the Employer supplies documentation supporting the request for the longer period. Such employees shall be member of the BC General Employees’ Union and will be considered casual employees for the purposes of the Collective Agreement. Wage rates shall be subject to mutual agreement between the Parties. If the special project continues, the position shall be posted.

Those employees who are hired for a one (1) year term, in accordance with Article 2.3, or whose term is extended beyond six (6) months, shall receive the full benefit package, as allowed by the carrier, for six (6) months, however, are not entitled to severance pay as outlined in Article 13.
