Personal/Family Illness. Each full-time teacher in the bargaining unit shall be entitled to be absent from work on account of personal or family illness or quarantine for a total of ten (10) days the first year employed, and ten (10) days each year thereafter accumulative to a maximum of one hundred thirteen (113) days. If any teacher has accumulated one (1) or more days of sick leave in another public school corporation in the State of Indiana and shall thereupon become employed by the Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative, then there shall be added for the second and each succeeding year of such employment, up to three (3) sick leave days until the number of accumulated days to which the teacher was entitled inthe last place of employment shall be exhausted. Family, as used in this section, is defined as the teacher's spouse, parents, children, brother, sister or person living the same house as part of the family.

If an Employee does not need to use his/her allotted days during the year, the unused days may be accumulated to one hundred twenty-five (125) days. After reporting for work the next year, the Employee will be credited with the current year’s fifteen (15) days, so that up to one hundred forty days (140) days may be used in one year if necessary. However, no more than 125 days may be carried forward to a subsequent year. An Employee granted sick/family leave on parent/teacher conference or professional development days may require a doctor’s certificate. Personal/Family Illness can be used for employee, spouse, significant other, child, parent, step-parent, grandchildren, legal dependent, brothers, sisters, or corresponding relatives of the employee’s spouse who require medical constant long-term care or hospitalization (Superintendent may request doctor verification) or legal dependent. At the beginning of each school year by September 15th, an unmarried employee wishing to designate a “significant other” must register the individual as a significant other with the Central Office.

Employees who are assigned work for more than the school term shall be allowed one (1) additional day of current personal/family illness leave for each full month beyond the school term. An employee who is unable to work because of personal/family illness or injury and who has exhausted his/her accumulated sick leave, shall be granted an unpaid leave of absence for the balance of the contract year in which his/her accumulated sick leave has been exhausted or for the period of time specified in the Family and Medical Leave Act, whichever is longer. Sick leave for any length of time may require a doctor’s certificate. In any case, a doctor’s certificate must be presented whenever sick leave is requested for more than five (5) days. Part-time employees will be allotted personal/family illness days in the same proportion as the amount of time they are employed. Personal/Family Illness. If Superintendent is absent from duty on account of personal illness or disability he will be allowed full pay for a total of ten days per contract year, prorated based upon actual days worked (July 1 – June 30). Unused paid leave days hereunder will be cumulative to a maximum of 100 days for absence due to personal illness or disability of Superintendent. Superintendent will not receive any additional compensation in lieu of the use of sick days. Sick days accumulated from the Superintendent’s previous position with the district will carry over to this new position.

  • Family Illness The start of a family leave for a serious health condition of a family member shall begin on the date requested by the employee or designated by Management.

  • Personal Illness Employees may use accumulated sick leave for hours off due to personal illness. The employee may be required to furnish a medical certificate from a qualified physician as evidence of illness or physical disability in order to qualify for paid sick leave as per District practice. Accumulated sick leave may also be granted for such time as is actually necessary for office visits to a doctor, dentist, optometrist, etc.

  • Personal Illness or Disability The bargaining unit member may use all or any portion of his leave to recover from his/her own illness or disability.

  • Leave for Family Illness In the case of illness of a member of an employee’s immediate family, meaning spouse, son, daughter, father, mother, or person to whom the employee is legal guardian when no one at home other than the employee can provide for the needs of the ill person, the employee may be granted, after notifying her immediate management supervisor, leave with pay up to five (5) working days per fiscal year, for the purpose of making such arrangements as are necessary to permit the employee’s return to work. The immediate management supervisor may require proof of the need for such leave as she considers necessary.

  • Family Illness Leave An employee will be granted leave of absence for up to five (5) days per year without loss of pay or benefits for family illness. Additional family illness leave may be granted by the employer.

  • Illness in Immediate Family 1. Up to three (3) days of sick leave may be used by a teacher for each serious illness of a member of that teacher's immediate family or birth of a child of a teacher. Serious illness shall mean an illness where death is probable and may occur, surgery is performed requiring hospitalization, or illness requiring treatment by a physician. Two (2) additional days of sick leave may be used where round trip travel is 600 miles or more.
