Illness in Immediate Family. 1. Up to three (3) days of sick leave may be used by a teacher for each serious illness of a member of that teacher's immediate family or birth of a child of a teacher. Serious illness shall mean an illness where death is probable and may occur, surgery is performed requiring hospitalization, or illness requiring treatment by a physician. Two (2) additional days of sick leave may be used where round trip travel is 600 miles or more.

Illness in Immediate Family. A. A bargaining unit member may use any or all of the fourteen (14) annual allotted days for illness in the immediate family. As part of a qualifying Family Medical Leave, a bargaining unit member may use up to thirty (30) days of his/her accumulated sick leave for illness in the immediate family, less any annual sick leave days previously used from the current year’s appropriation for this purpose. Immediate family shall mean spouse, children, mother, father, or anyone who lives regularly in the household.
Illness in Immediate Family. Any employee on permanent appointment may secure a leave of absence when sufficient evidence has been presented that an emergency exists due to illness in the employee’s immediate family. The duration of the leave may be for less than one school year and may be renewed consistent with the regulations of the Onondaga County Civil Service Commission provided, however, that a leave of absence for less than one (1) school year pursuant to this Paragraph is subject to the same limitations with respect to return to duty, as set forth in Article 10, Paragraph C and H above.

Illness in Immediate Family. Absence without loss of pay shall be allowed for illness in immediate family (spouse, child, parent, grandparent, stepchild, stepparent or parent-in-law) if they live in the same household or are a person whose relationship to the employee warrants such attendance. Approval from the immediate supervisor is required. A maximum of five (5) days per contract year will be allowed. FMLA eligible employees may also use available sick days during FMLA qualifying family illness. Exceptions may be granted by the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. The employee will indicate "Family illness" on the time sheet for use of sick leave for this purpose.
