Working on a Holiday. Whenever an employee is required to work on a fixed holiday or the fixed holiday falls on an employee’s regularly scheduled day off, the employee shall accrue, on an hour-for-hour basis, up to a total of eight (8) hours floating holiday time. At the request of the employee, and with approval of the appointing authority, straight time payment can be made in lieu of accrual provided such compensation is approved during the pay period in which it is worked.
Working on a Holiday. Employees who work on a holiday, will not be given a day off to be taken at a later date. Employees who work on a holiday will be paid eight (8) hours at straight time for the holiday and at time and one half (1 ½) for each hour worked on the holiday.

When any of the above listed holidays fall on a Saturday, it will be observed on the preceding Friday; and when any of the above listed holidays fall on a Sunday, it will be observed on the following Monday, in either case, provided that such observance does not negatively impact the division’s ability to meet the needs of their customer(s). Hours worked on a holiday for which a premium rate is paid do not count towards overtime.
Working on a Holiday. When a holiday listed herein above falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, and an employee occupying a permanent full-time or permanent part-time position works on the holiday because the Saturday or Sunday is part of the employee's regular work schedule, the employee shall receive holiday pay for working on the County recognized holiday.

(1) If a legal holiday falls on a day on which an employee would normally work, those employees assigned to a 4/10 work schedule shall be entitled to the day off with pay with no additional deduction of vacation, management leave or in-lieu time. Employees with less than eight (8) hours of sick leave available who call off sick on a holiday shall code sick leave or other appropriate available accrued leave, if approved by his/her supervisor, but shall not be eligible to accrue the holiday leave.
