Religious institutions. There is a risk that religious institutions we finance violate human rights, for example by discriminating based on sexual orientation. Human rights risks as an employer As an employer we have identified a certain risk of causing or contributing to undesirable conduct such as bullying, discrimination, aggression and (sexual) harassment. Also, there is a certain risk we fail to be a divers and socially inclusive organization. Human rights risks as a contractor Most of our suppliers (around 80 %) are small and medium sized companies that operate in one of our six European countries. We have not identified salient human rights issues with these suppliers. We also have contracts with larger organisations. Through their activities and supply chains we could become linked to potential negative human rights impacts, especially when supply chains are in regions with relatively weak regulation and enforcement. We have identified the extraction of raw materials for ict appliances as a salient issue in our supply chain. Human rights governance Triodos Bank has two important policies that describe the way we incorporate human rights in our activities: the Business Principles and Minimum Standards. These policies are applied across all activities of Triodos Bank and Triodos Investment Management. In all the countries where we have banking activities, they apply to new clients, existing clients, our own operations and our own staff. In our Business Principles we explicitly state our commitment to the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and that we seek to ensure that none of our products and services abuse civil, political, social or economic rights. In our Minimum Standards we state that companies have a clear responsibility regarding human rights and that our business relations are expected to respect human rights, especially the rights of women, and those of children and other vulnerable groups. The Minimum Standards set out the absolute minimum requirements for all our investments and credit agreements. It includes the sectors we do not want to invest in. We strive for an open dialogue with our stakeholders. If any of them feel their rights have been impacted, they can file a complaint as part of our grievance mechanism. Our Complaint Handling Policy is open to co-workers, clients and third parties. Religious institutions. No religious institutions are located in the south section, so there would be no long‐term effects on such facilities.
Religious institutions. The several religious institutions located in the central section are generally not located in close proximity to the project corridor. General and transit access to these facilities would change slightly because of the reduced number of downtown ramps. Travel routes would change and travel times would lengthen, but these changes would not be substantial considering that travel to these institutions is not likely an everyday occurrence. Social and Employment Services There are many social and employment services located in this section of the project corridor. They meet the daily needs of low‐income and disadvantaged residents in downtown Seattle. The CASA Latina Day Workers’ Center is currently leasing property owned by the City of Seattle but is looking to purchase a site elsewhere. If CASA Latina cannot move in time, it would receive relocation assistance. Building acquisition also would displace the Catholic Seamen’s Club. For other agencies, access to and from their downtown facility, clients, other social service agencies, and other destinations would change and travel times may increase if travel involves use of the waterfront tunnel, which has no downtown exists. Client access to these services long‐term, however, would not likely change, as most arrive at service centers by transit or walking and would not likely include use of the tunnel.
Religious institutions. There are no religious institutions located in the north waterfront section. Social and Employment Services There are no social or employment service organizations located along Alaskan Way surface street in the north waterfront section.
Religious institutions. No properties owned by religious institutions would be acquired in the north section. Social and Employment Services No social service organizations would be acquired for construction of the Tunnel Alternative in the north section.
Religious institutions. To put in secular language the involvement of the Macedonian Orthodox Church or any other religious institutions and organizations in the political strife is politically unfair, detrimental and dangerous, and it is a sin in accordance with the religious canons and dogmas. To stir up religious passions or religious intolerance in multi-religious environment is extremely dangerous. The political entities are obliged to safeguard the neutrality of the religious institutions, at least because in case of their possible political loss, the respective religious institution may also happen to be in the loser group. The religion, the faith may not and should not prove a loser in any combination, whatsoever. In accordance with the sociologist X. Xxxxxxxxxxx: “The process of the referendum has two truths and two sides – ‘FOR” and “AGAINST”, and even a third-one, which “DOES NOT WANT TO VOTE”. The very fact that there are more truths about the referendum, in its new role of a campaigner for something against somebody, the Church creates confusion, since it openly takes side.” • Non-governmental, non-political, civil sector SDSM has enjoyed an excellent collaboration with the non-governmental organizations. This is the reason why since long among the public it has persistently been maintained that in general, the organizations and institutions of that sector have not lived up to their main mission, participating in the political process and even more, taking sides in favor of one or another political option. The existing total political elite of the Republic of Macedonia has been manifesting a behavior of a separate, isolated class, of an enclosed and prominent caste, showing rude, overbearing and arrogant attitude towards the population, condescending to communicate with the same only as an electorate during the election period. A strong, powerful, and sound civil society is lacking in Macedonia to control with the help of efficient tools this class in the period between two election cycles. On the other hand, however, the civil sector, the non-governmental organizations and associations are satisfied that the Government, unlike the previous governing power, does not treat this segment as “the fifth column in the country”. This sector however has the observation that the Government has no serious and clear concept about a genuine and real collaboration, and the organizations of this segment have been left on their own. • The World Macedonian Congress SMK has surprised...
