Steps in Grievance Procedure. Step 1. Immediate Supervisor (Informal) The employee, with or without Union representation, shall take up the grievance with his/her immediate supervisor, with the objective of resolving the matter informally. The supervisor shall respond orally within 7 calendar days. Failure of an employee to act on an alleged violation of the Agreement within 14 calendar days of the employee’s knowledge of the alleged violation shall act as a bar to any written appeal to any further step.

However, if addi- tional assistance is requested and agreed to such meeting shall be held within three workdays unless the Step 1 representa- tive agrees to an extension of time which will not exceed an additional 3 workdays. The foregoing procedure, if followed in good faith by both parties, should lead to a fair and speedy solution of most of the complaints arising out of the day-to-day operations of the plant. If the oral answer is not satisfactory to the employee and the grievance representative determines that the grievance is meritorious, the grievance representative shall put the grievance into writing on forms provided by the Company. The written grievance shall be dated and signed by the griev- ance representative and employee (or other employees affected). It shall include a statement of the facts relied upon, the Section or Sections of the Agreement believed to have been violated and the corrective action sought. The written grievance must be pre- sented to the Supervisor for his further consideration before the end of the second workday after he has given his oral answer. The Supervisor shall give his written answer to the grievance representative within 2 workdays after receipt of the written grievance. Grievances resolved at Step 1 shall be considered resolved without precedent and shall not be used in the discussion of other grievances or arbitration cases. If no satisfactory settlement is reached at Step One, the written complaint must state the issue(s) and any remedy sought, and copies signed by the aggrieved employee shall, within five (5) working days, be forwarded to the immediate supervisor, Director of Human Resources or his/her designee and the Union Grievance Committee Chairperson. Within ten (10) working days of receipt of notification, the Director of Human Resources or his/her designee must meet with the Union representative and the grievant and either adjust or refuse the grievance.
Steps in Grievance Procedure. Disputes arising under this agreement shall be resolved as follows: In the interest of resolving disputes at the earliest possible time, it is agreed that an attempt to resolve a dispute shall be made between the employee and his immediate supervisor. A grievance arising directly between the Corporation and the Association concerning the interpretation, application or alleged violation of this Agreement shall be carried directly to the Joint Committee.
