UNITED STEELWORKERS. Re: Accommodation of Handicapped Workers The Union and the Company recognize the duty to accommodate handicapped workers under the Human Rights Code. They recognize that undue claims on this duty by some employees may reduce the Company's ability to accommodate other workers. LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN:

UNITED STEELWORKERS. The Company and Union agree to the employment of Summer Students under the following conditions: Summer Students shall only be employed by the Company during the period of May to the Friday prior to Labour Day inclusive in any year. The Company shall not be permitted to hire Summer Students if there are bargaining unit employees on layoff. Summer Students will not accumulate seniority during their period of employment and shall not have any recall or bumping rights. Summer Students shall not be eligible to receive Group Insurance or Pension Benefits during their term of employment. Summer Students shall not be required to pay initiation fees to the Union. However, they will be required to pay Union dues as provided for in Article Union Security. Summer Students shall be paid not less than the starting rate for the job classification to which they are assigned. Summer Students shall not be asked or permitted to work overtime unless permanent employees in the classification in which the student is assigned are unable or unwilling to work. Except as provided for above, Summer Students shall be covered by all other provisions of the collective agreement. Signed this day of FOR THE COMPANY. Re: Article The parties agree that a shortened work week of no less than three (3) days does not trigger the layoff procedures of Article provided that no employee is affected more than ten (10) days per contract year. Where the work week is shortened for some employees but not for all, the work available on those days on which all employees are not working will be distributed during successive short weeks as equitable as possible amongst those employees who have performed the work as a regular part of the job at the Company within the preceding six (6) months.
