Annex 1 Health & Safety Rules for Contractors Working on Prison Premises This document must be read in conjunction with the Prison Health & Safety Policy and Fire Policy Documents available from the Establishment(s). Introduction It is the responsibility of the Governor as the controller of the establishment to ensure as far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of all staff, prisoners, visitors and Contractors. Furthermore to ensure that the acts or omissions of Contractors do not endanger staff, prisoners and visitors while carrying out their normal duties in the establishment. The establishment Health and Safety Policy Statement of Arrangements recognises these duties and this document should be read in conjunction with it. In view of the many and varied activities carried out by Contractors on prison premises, it is considered appropriate that an addendum to the establishment Health and Safety Policy Statement of Arrangements is implemented and recognised by Contractors working on prison premises, setting out a general code of practice for each Contract and takes into account the varying circumstances in each area of the establishment. Purpose of this Document This document has been prepared to help Contractors and their employees to work safely, and to prevent accidents and injuries to themselves and to others who may be affected by their acts or omissions while working in the prison. This addendum also aims to assist Contractors in complying with the Health and Safety at Work Act, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations, and all other association legislation.
