NON-OCCUPATIONAL SICK LEAVE. Non-occupational sick leave shall be granted in accordance with the provision hereof, without loss of pay, benefits or seniority, to each member for sickness or injury sustained by a member otherwise than in the performance of duty. An employee absent for four (4) consecutive days or more may be required to submit a doctor’s certificate to the Chief attesting to the reasons for the absence. Abuse of sick leave benefits may be grounds for discipline. Sick leave may be used only for bona fide illness or injury, with the exception that up to ten (10) sick days may be used per calendar year for the illness or injury of the employee’s immediate family member (family sick days). Family sick days shall not limit or negatively impact the employee’s opportunity to work details and overtime. On January 1st of each year, the Town will grant three (3) personal days to each unit member. New employees hired after January 1st of any year shall receive prorated personal days with the employee receiving three (3) days if hired between January and April, two (2) days if hired between May and August, and one (1) day if hired between September and December. Personal days are non-cumulative and must be used by December 31st. The Town will not buy back personal days upon termination of employment or retirement.

Sick leave must be used for purposes of an officer’s own illness or injury, with the exception that up to ten (10) sick days may be used for illness of the employee’s immediate family member. An employee absent for four (4) consecutive days or more may be required to submit a doctor’s certificate to the Chief attesting to the reasons for the absence. Abuse of sick leave benefits may be grounds for discipline.
NON-OCCUPATIONAL SICK LEAVE. A. The payment of compensation to employees who are absent from work because of non-occupational illness or injury or exposure to contagious disease or severe emotional shock shall be subject to the following provisions:
NON-OCCUPATIONAL SICK LEAVE. All employees who work twenty (20) or more hours per week shall be credited with one and one quarter (1 1/4) days of sick leave upon the completion of each month of service (or the major fraction of a month) until the July 1 following the date of employment. The number of days credited as of July 1 of each year shall be available for future use. No maximum is applicable to this sick leave accumulation. For each day of sick leave accumulated at the start of a single continuous, prolonged illness an employee who has exhausted his sick leave credit may receive two (2) additional days of sick leave, if necessary, up to a maximum of sixty-six (66) days on the recommendation of the Director of Facilities and Transportation, with a written statement from the employee’s doctor of the nature of the illness and the probable duration thereof, with the approval of the Superintendent. Extended leave may be used only for the illness or injury to the employee himself (herself) and only while in the employ of the District. In order to be eligible to be granted sick leave, the employee must notify the Director of Facilities and Transportation of his/her incapacity on the first day of absence, stating the nature of the sickness or injury, time expected to be incapacitated and when he/she expects to return to work. The Director of Facilities and Transportation may request from the employee his or her doctor’s statement concerning the incapacitation, after three (3) consecutive days, or if a pattern of absence emerges, if in the Director’s judgment the situation demands such certification. This discretion shall not be unreasonably exercised. Earned sick leave days shall be earned and paid at the rate of hours worked per day.
NON-OCCUPATIONAL SICK LEAVE. All employees permanently employed, shall be entitled to fifteen (15) days of sick leave at full pay during each calendar year. Unused sick leave may be accumulated without limit. The Newark Public Schools may require proof of such illness by way of medical certificate or any other means the Newark Public Schools wishes to use. The rules and regulations of the New Jersey Department of Personnel shall also apply to such leaves, where such rules and regulations are applicable.
NON-OCCUPATIONAL SICK LEAVE. Section 1. Eligibility Members of the bargaining unit shall be eligible for non-occupational sick leave as provided hereunder.

An industrial accident or illness is defined as one where the unit member becomes ill or is injured while he/she is serving the District, and, the accident or illness is reported to the District’s Self-Insurance Program in accordance with District regulations, and, the District Self-Insurance Program accepts responsibility for the treatment of the unit member.

  • Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness Leave a) Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness leaves granted to a permanent Teacher or long-term Occasional Teacher under this Article shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Standards Act, 2000, as amended.

  • Sick Leave Use Sick leave will be charged in one-tenth (1/10th) of an hour increments and may be used for the following reasons:

  • Family Sick Leave An employee may use sick leave credits for family illness or injury only if the employee must provide direct care to an immediate family member. For purposes of family sick leave, “immediate family member” will mean the employee’s parent, spouse, or child, including step-child and xxxxxx child.

  • Family Illness Leave In the event of illness in the immediate family, an employee shall be granted up to three (3) days of absence without loss of salary to be deducted from sick leave. The immediate family shall be construed to mean father, mother, son, daughter, wife, husband, brother, sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, or daughter-in-law. A statement from a responsible person other than the employee may be required as proof of illness.

  • Paid Sick Leave Employees shall earn and be granted paid sick leave according to the following provisions:

  • Illness Leave A. Illness is defined as any pronounced deviation from a normal health state which makes it disadvantageous to the District and/or detrimental to the employee for him/her to be at work. This definition shall include emergency medical, dental, optical, and prosthetic work.
