Overtime Selection. .1 Overtime at the start or end of the shift will be offered to the employee currently in the position before it is offered to other employees .2 Overtime hours that are the result of a special shift will be offered to the most senior qualified and current person, followed by the senior qualified person, followed by the partial qualified person.
Overtime Selection. (a) When overtime is required, the Supervisor shall endeavour to advise those employees required to work overtime at least four hours prior to the time the overtime will commence. Where reasonable and practical overtime will be offered by seniority beginning with the most senior of the employees in the classification and then to those in the department with the skill and ability. Employees are expected to cooperate and perform overtime when requested. If a need remains the company will consult the weekly overtime volunteer posting for employees with demonstrated skill and ability and where skill and ability are comparable select the senior employee for the overtime assignment. The posting will be a regular weekly posting allowing employees to write their names on days for potential overtime assignments that may be required. The company will consider names written on the posting 24 hours in advance of the overtime to be worked (names written after that will not necessarily be considered). If overtime is scheduled, employees whose names are on the posting, for that day, will be required to work. If a need still remains the company will utilize any measure possible to complete the required hours. The rate paid to employees selected for overtime who do not normally perform the work done in this overtime period will be the top of A rate for the classification if it is less than the employees current rate and the next highest rate published in the agreement if the employees current rate is less than the top of A for the classification. (b) Employees selected from the posting process who are from a department that requires overtime will be first applied to their departmental requirements. As overtime assignments are cancelled the overtime co-ordinator in Human Resources will be advised and make the necessary adjustments to maintain accurate assignments by entitlement. Employees whose right has been accidentally overlooked will receive a maximum of 3 hours pay at 1.5 times the rate defined in 16.05 (a). (c) Employees absent from work at the time overtime is being assigned (normally with as much notice as possible), for any reason other than performance of employment related assignments will not be entitled to consideration for the overtime scheduled during their absence. Overtime Selection. It is recognized that overtime work is necessary in the industry and where practicable. excessive overtime shall be avoided. The Company recognizes and will encourage shift work. The necessity of working overtime must not be construed as license for continuous application of overtime after the regular working shift on specificjobs where it can be that alternative means would be as productive with an equal or lesser cost to the Company; i.e. adding another shift or adding more workers to an existing shift. Overtime shall be distributed fairly and impartially among qualified employees within their respective classifications. While on loan to another classification, an employee shall be considered an employee of that classification for the purpose of allocating overtime. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the loaned may work, on an overtime basis, in his regular classification when sufficient employees cannot be obtained from that overtime list. After three overtime absences within any ninety (90) day period, the employee's name shall be removed from the overtime rotation list for ninety (90) days. For all weekend and holiday overtime work, including call-outs, a list of willing employees shall be established and employees chosen, in turn, from the list (except as outlined in section and below). In the event overtime commitments cannot be met on a voluntary basis, the qualified employee(s) with least seniority will be selected, subject to the notice required by 21.03. Failure to follow these steps will result in the forfeiture of the Comp Time request, and the employee will be paid for the overtime worked. b. Each hour of overtime worked for which Comp Time was requested shall result in 1.5 hours of Comp Time placed into the Compensatory Time Off Bank. c. Accrual of Comp Time shall be capped at a total of 72 hours on a rolling basis during each fiscal year. Once an employee reaches the maximum cap, any additional overtime hours will be paid the appropriate rate of pay for the hours worked. d. Comp Time shall not carry over from one fiscal year to the next and shall be paid out in September at the employee's then current wage rate. e. Employees shall request to use Comp Time through the same process as requesting use of Vacation Leave.
