Approval of Annual Leave. Choice of annual leave dates shall be granted whenever practical, but the operation requirements of the City as determined by the Police Chief, shall prevail. Except as provided above, when more than one employee, on the same day, requests the same vacation schedule than can be spared, preference will be granted based on seniority in classification. If an employee is requesting to take two (2) consecutive days or less, of annual leave, s/he must submit written notice of the annual leave request prior to the start of the scheduled shift s/he intends to use annual leave for, and prior approval must be granted by the immediate supervisor. In the event the employee is not able to submit a written request prior to the start of the intended missed shift, a verbal request may be accepted upon approval of the immediate supervisor, followed by documentation of leave dates and granted approval. If an employee is requesting to take more than two (2) consecutive days of annual leave, the written request should be submitted no later than seven (7) consecutive calendar days before the employee wishes to take the vacation time.

Annual leave may be taken in increments of one-half hour, provided that the request for annual leave has been made during at least one prior work shift, in advance of the shift for which leave is to be used, and that the request has received prior supervisory approval. Use of annual leave shall not be considered an “occurrence” for consideration in any employee evaluations, disciplinary actions, or for approval of requests for leave. Should an employee choose to use annual leave for the purposes of attending class under Article 34, the employee must have sufficient leave to cover usage for the entire semester.

Except with the written approval of the Fire Chief, or designee, and the City Manager, not more than two hundred sixteen (216) consecutive hours may be taken off in any period of annual leave.
Approval of Annual Leave. A supervisor's decision to approve or deny non-emergency annual leave will be based on work requirements. When an employee requests annual leave through WebTA (or USAID approved system), the supervisor is expected to approve or deny the request expeditiously, normally within three (3) work days. All requests for annual leave of one (1) week or more will be approved or denied no later than seven (7) work days prior to the requested start date of leave.
Approval of Annual Leave. Annual leave requested for any period during a posted watch schedule for the shift being worked shall normally be approved/disapproved by the supervisor on the shift being worked by the end of the workday on the day following the request. It is incumbent upon the supervisor to remain aware of future staffing requirements to support timely processing of leave requests. Leave requests for future shifts (less than two (2) weeks) will normally be approved/disapproved within twenty-four (24) hours of the submission of the request. Leave requests will be approved in the order that they were requested. If the request was disapproved and annual leave for that time period later becomes available, the leave will be approved in the order that the Employer received the request.

Approval of Annual Leave. A response shall be given within seven Days to a request for annual leave in excess of three Days.   • Accrual of Annual Leave (1). Full-time employees appointed for more than nine (9) months, except employees on academic year appointments, shall accrue annual leave at the rate of 6.769 hours biweekly or 14.667 hours per month (or a number of hours that is directly proportionate to the number of days worked during less than a full-pay period for full-time employees), and the hours accrued shall be credited at the conclusion of each pay period or, upon termination, at the effective date of termination. Employees may accrue annual leave in excess of the year end maximum during a calendar year. Employees with accrued annual leave in excess of the year end maximum as of December 31, shall have any excess converted to sick leave on an hour-for-hour basis on January 1 of each year.
