Special Paid Leave. A nurse having completed at least six (6) years of continuous service on June 6, 2014 who has, at January 1st of any year, a positive Frozen Sick Bank Amount to her/his credit may elect to take one special paid leave in that calendar year of up to 37.5 hours or the number of hours remaining in the nurse’s Frozen Sick Bank based on the nurse’s current rate, whichever is lesser, in consecutive days. If a nurse has a least 37.5 hours in her/his Frozen Sick Bank Amount at her/his current rate, the special paid leave must be taken as a full consecutive week. If a nurse elects to take a special paid leave, her/his Frozen Sick Bank Amount shall be reduced as of the commencement of such paid leave by the value of such leave at the nurse’s current rate. This provision is however strictly based on the following conditions: * that the Practitioners Health Service commitments can be met, * that other than for identifiable and exceptional circumstances at least four weeks notice is given in accordance with the Health Services leave delegation policy prior to the period of special leave, and * that the period of special leave is agreed prior to the leave being taken.

Special Paid Leave. 7.20.1 Special Paid Leave may be granted where unforeseen circumstances may prevent the employee from attending work, and the employee’s Personal Leave balance is 12 days or less. This could be matters relating to serious family emergencies or situations.
Special Paid Leave. 20.32 Where a pregnancy terminates by miscarriage or results in still-birth within 20 weeks of the expected date of birth, the Employee who was due to give birth will be entitled to Special Paid Leave for a period equivalent to half of the Paid Primary Xxxxx’s Leave to which they would have otherwise been entitled. The Employer shall attempt to comply with an Employee’s request for special paid leave and where mutual agreement cannot be achieved or operational requirements dictate, the Employer may refuse to grant the request for special paid leave. Monies owing to an Employee for special paid leave purposes shall be paid to the Employee incrementally during the period of leave on their regular pay day or as otherwise mutually agreed between the Employee and the Employer. Special paid leave shall be exclusive of any statutory holiday that occurs during the period of special paid leave. By mutual agreement with the Employer and an Employee is able to “cash in” any amount of special paid leave accrued and forego that amount of leave. Such a payment shall be equal to the amount the Employee would have been paid if they had taken the leave. Any requests to “cash in” any special paid leave provision should be made by written completion and signature of the appropriate forms.
