ONA Staff Leave. For an employee with at least two (2) years full-time or equivalent service (e.g. 3,000 hours of part-time RN service), upon application in writing by the Union to the Employer, an unpaid leave of absence may be granted to such employee selected for a secondment or a temporary staff position with the Ontario Nurses' Association. Such leave shall not be unreasonably denied or extended beyond twelve (12) months. Notwithstanding Article 11.10, there shall be no loss of service or seniority for an employee during such leave of absence. It is understood that during such leave the employee shall be deemed to be an employee of the Ontario Nurses' Association. The employee agrees to notify the Employer of her or his intention to return to work at least ten (10) weeks prior to the date of such return. The employee shall be reinstated to her or his former position, unless that position has been discontinued, in which case the employee shall be given a comparable job. During such leaves of absence all salary, statutory benefits, pension, vacation and benefits will be kept whole by the Employer and the Union agrees to reimburse the Employer for such salary and Employer contributions to benefits unless the Union decides to take sole responsibility for these employee obligations.

Such leave shall not be unreasonably denied or extended beyond twelve (12) eighteen (18) months. Notwithstanding Article 10.04, there shall be no loss of service or seniority for an employee during such leave of absence. For a temporary staff position, it is understood that during such leave the employee shall be deemed to be an employee of the Ontario Nurses' Association. The employee agrees to notify the Hospital of their intention to return to work at least two (2) weeks prior to the date of such return. The employee shall be reinstated to their former position, unless that position has been discontinued, in which case the employee shall be given a comparable job. For nurses selected for a secondment position, it is agreed that the parties will come to agreement by Letter of Understanding which will include salary and applicable benefits. It is understood that in circumstances where the Union reimburses the Hospital for the cost of benefits, that such reimbursement will be at the rate of nineteen percent (19%).

ONA Staff Leave. A nurse may be granted an unpaid leave of absence to work in a secondment or temporary staff position with ONA. The leave will not exceed twelve (12) months, and the nurse’s service and seniority will continue to accumulate during the leave. Such request will not be unreasonably denied.
