Other Professional Responsibilities a. Each faculty member shall attend all required scheduled district-wide meetings, campus-wide meetings and those area meetings pertaining to College matters called by an immediate Administrative Supervisor, unless on an approved leave or with authorization from his immediate Administration Supervisor or the Campus President. If a student requests special consideration based upon disabilities, the faculty member will refer the student to the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities. When presented with documentation issued by that office, the instructional faculty member will endeavor to provide the instruction needed within the normal class setting, or, where necessary, request the services of a specialist. If deemed advisable, the instructor shall advise the disabled student to consult with the faculty member’s immediate Administrative Supervisor for assistance in obtaining an acceptable course substitution as provided for by the laws of the State of Florida. c. Each faculty member shall develop a syllabus and distribute it to or post online for students by the end of the second week of class. In an effort to provide opportunities for administrators to initiate projects for professional growth and renewal, the Board and the ASA agree to establish "Professional Development Leaves." These leaves will be competitively awarded in the manner outlined in Section 3 below, based on a combination of two general criteria: (1) the individual's past contributions to the District; and (2) potential value of the proposed project, both to the individual and to the District. 1. A committee will be established to oversee the planning and implementation of this program. The role of the committee will be (1) to draft guidelines, procedures and criteria for the administration of "Professional Development Leaves", subject to approval by the Superintendent of Schools, and (2) to review proposals that are submitted and to make recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools as part of the procedure outlined in Section 4 below. 3. The submission and review of proposals shall be as follows: a. The Joint Committee will prepare a solicitation for proposals which will be distributed to all administrators in the District. This solicitation will describe the program; explain the application procedures and review criteria; and outline the timetable and decision-making process. b. Only tenured administrators will be eligible to apply. c. The Joint Committee will review all proposals submitted in accordance with the published review criteria and will make their recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools. d. The Superintendent, in turn, will review the committee's recommendations and will submit his/her own recommendations to the Board of Education. The Board of Education will make final decisions on awards of "Professional Development Leaves." 4. Other features of the program provide the following: a. Recipients of these leaves will agree to return to employment in the District for a minimum of two (2) years subsequent to their leaves, or else will return a pro-rated portion of the cost of their leaves. b.
