Pay for Unused Sick Leave. Unused sick leave not to exceed 70 days will be paid at the rate of $50 per day when the teacher retires or leaves U.S.D. 506 employment, provided the teacher has a minimum of 10 years of service in U.S.D. 506. Article VI: Activity Ticket Each teacher of U.S.D. 506 shall be issued an activity ticket, which shall be honored at all regular school functions held within the district. Said ticket shall not be honored at basketball tournaments and special events. Said ticket shall be honored for employee, spouse, and children who have not yet graduated from high school. The Board of Education will have an expectation that those teachers in attendance at school functions will assume a reasonable amount of general supervision as needed.

Pay for Unused Sick Leave. If an employee requests severance pay and meets the eligibility requirements set forth in 13.2, he or she will receive a District contribution to the Severance Plan in an amount equal to $175 for each day of accrued unused sick leave for up to one hundred fourteen and twenty-nine one-hundredth (114.29) days.

Eligible employees who provide less than three months notification of retirement will receive an amount equal to $100 pay for each day of accrued, unused sick leave up to 125 days. • Exigent Circumstances. Eligible employees are encouraged to notify the Director of Human Resources as soon as possible that they plan to retire. If an employee submits documentation verifying that exigent circumstances exist that made early notification of retirement plans impossible, such as a sudden illness/injury of the employee or immediate family member necessitating immediate retirement or major changes in assignment, and if the employee meets the eligibility requirements set forth above, the District will review and consider this information and may waive any reduction of severance as provided above.

Pay for Unused Sick Leave. It is customary to provide to employees whose employment is severed a sum of money in recognition of their past service. Employees who have stayed on the job despite minor or major illness have not only aided the educational process, but also allowed the district to spend less in the substitute portion of the budget. Such service deserves reward. The Board of Education will pay each full time certified employee, building principal, or central office administrator leaving the district through resignation, retirement, or death, after 5 years of service, the sum of $25.00 per day for all the accumulate sick leave. If the death of an employee occurs before retirement, any designated beneficiary (as stated on KPERS records shall receive the benefit). The payment shall be made within thirty (30) days or one full pay period after completion of the contract or the pay period.

As an alternative to the two-dollars ($2.00), per day payment for unused sick leave above, an employee may elect to convert unused sick leave to up to one (1) year of credited service under the City of Grand Rapids General Retirement System as provided herein. An employee shall not be paid for any remaining hours of sick leave under the payoff provisions above after converting to the maximum of one (1) year of credited service. Employees who participate in the City of Grand Rapids General Retirement System who retire or separate with a deferred retirement with ten (10) or more years of continuous service may elect to receive pension service credit for unused sick leave. Two thousand and eighty (2,080) hours of sick leave shall be required to achieve one (1) year of pension service credit. Lesser amounts shall be converted on a pro-rated basis as determined by the Retirement Systems office. Any such additional credited service received upon conversion of unused sick leave upon retirement or separation with a deferred retirement under these provisions shall be used solely for the purpose of computing the member’s life allowance and shall be subject to the percentage caps of Article 28, Section 1(f).
