Major illness definition

Major illness is defined as being of more than seven (7) calendar days duration and to be other than a major on-the-job accidents.
Major illness means any of the major illnesses specified and defined in Section III of this Contract Rider.

Examples of Major illness in a sentence

  • Initial membership in the Major Illness Bank requires a voluntary contribution of two (2) sick leave days within the first ten (10) school days of the opening of school.

  • The Major Illness Bank shall be administered by a committee consisting of three (3) members.

  • Individuals requesting days from the Major Illness Bank must submit their request in writing to the Bank Chairperson.

  • This Major Illness Sick Leave Plan is established solely for employees who have a major illness which requires the use of sick leave beyond the amount of accumulated sick leave and vacation leave held by said employee.

  • In the event that the Insured Person is diagnosed with any Major Illness / Injury during the Policy Year, then at the Policyholder’s / Insured Person’s request, the Company shall arrange for a Second Opinion from a Medical Practitioner within India.

  • The Major Illness Bank may be charged for sick leave required, in cases of major illness or accident, only after the employee has exhausted all but three (3) days of accumulated sick leave and vacation leave has been exhausted, or thirty (30) consecutive working days of illness, whichever shall last occur.

  • The unused days remaining in the Major Illness Bank on June 30 of any school year may be carried over to the successive school year, provided that the Bank shall not exceed three hundred (300) days at the beginning of a school year.

  • A teacher who is not actively at work at the start of the school year due to major illness or accident, and who does not have any accumulated sick leave available, may be granted Major Illness Bank benefits by unanimous vote of the Major Illness Bank Committee.

  • Only teachers who contribute to the Major Illness Bank are eligible to apply for benefits without exception.

  • Only employees who contributed to the Major Illness Bank for more than one year are eligible to apply for benefits without exception.

Related to Major illness

  • Illness means a sickness or a disease or pathological condition leading to the impairment of normal physiological function which manifests itself during the Policy Period and requires medical treatment.

  • Critical Illness or “CI” means Diagnosis of any of the following Covered Conditions which occur directly as a result of illness, and first occur after the Effective Date of Insurance:

  • major accident means an incident involving loss of life inside or outside the establishment or ten or more injuries inside and/or one or more injuries outside or release of toxic chemical or explosion or fire or spillage of hazardous chemical resulting in ‘on-site’ or ‘off-site’ emergencies or damage to equipment leading to stoppage of process or adverse effect to the environment;

  • Sickness means an illness or disease diagnosed or treated by a Physician.

  • Major disaster means any natural catastrophe (including any hurricane, tornado, storm, high water, winddriven water, tidal wave, tsunami, earthquake, volcanic eruption, landslide, mudslide, snowstorm, or drought), or, regardless of cause, any fire, flood, or explosion, in any part of the United States, which in the determination of the President causes damage of sufficient severity and magnitude to warrant major disaster assistance under this Act to supplement the efforts and available resources of States, local governments, and disaster relief organizations in alleviating the damage, loss, hardship, or suffering caused thereby.
