Educational Lanes. Employees on the regular salary schedule who move from one educational lane to a higher educational lane shall be placed on the step corresponding with that to which they would have been entitled had they remained in their former educational lane. An employee if eligible shall be entitled to move both horizontally and vertically in the same year. A clerical or timeline error by either party will not preclude the use of courses to advance on the salary schedule. If that occurs, there will be a meeting between the teacher and the Human Resources Department to discuss and resolve the matter. The decision of the Director of Human Resources, or his designee, will be final. To advance from one educational lane to another, an employee shall complete and file with the human resources office a written application form furnished by the School District and available online under Human Resources no later than September 15 of the school year for which the credit is to be granted. Grade report forms may be temporarily accepted as evidence of completion of a course intended to be used by an employee in making application for horizontal advancement. If an official transcript(s) of credit(s) earned is not filed with the human resources office by the end of the first semester, the employee shall be moved back to his/her previous salary lane and his/her salary shall be reduced to make up for any overpayment. An administrative or clerical error at a college or university shall not be the sole basis for denying an employee’s request to move to a higher salary lane.

Educational Lanes. Employees on the regular salary schedule who qualify to be moved from one educational lane to a higher educational lane shall be moved to the appropriate step of the appropriate lane. Employees must file official documentation of additional educational credit with the superintendent no later than September 15, for pay adjustments for the entire school year, or no later than February 15, for pay adjustments in an amount equal to one-half of the increase allowed if received by September 15. Such documentation must show that the educational credit was awarded for graduate study through an accredited and recognized institution, and that the credit was awarded as part of (1) the employee's program of studies for an advanced degree, (2) advanced study in the employee's teaching area, or (3) study approved as qualifying credit by the appropriate director.

For an employee to advance from one (1) educational lane to another, the employee shall file suitable evidence of additional educational credit within their teaching field or courses related to their teaching skills within their teaching field or one-third of the courses which qualify toward an advanced degree in education with the Superintendent no later than October 1. Teachers will receive credit for an MA degree.

For an employee to advance from one educational lane to another, the employee shall file a grade report or a statement signed by the employee that the course has been completed with the Superintendent no later than the first day of the school year, and an official transcript of approved educational credit shall be filed no later than forty-five (45) days after the beginning of the school year, and pay adjustments shall be retroactive to the beginning of the same school year.

Educational Lanes. An employee who meets educational standards for advancement on the salary schedule must give notice of such schedule advancement to the Superintendent’s office by April 1st of the year preceding the school year when such change will take effect. To be eligible to advance on the salary schedule by meeting educational standards, the necessary degree must be granted or the necessary credit must be received, and verified to the Superintendent’s office by official transcript prior to October 1st. Where a college course credit or other acceptable credit is to be used for the purpose of horizontal advancement on the salary schedule, such credit must be related to the present assignment of the employee, meet a requirement toward a degree related to the present assignment of the employee, or be approved by the Superintendent or his designee as being beneficial to the school district. After July 1, 1992 hours shall be graduate hours in the employee’s teaching field or as a part of an educational plan approved by the superintendent. For an employee to advance from one educational lane to another, he/she shall file suitable evidence of additional educational credit with the superintendent prior to September 10th of the academic year. It is recommended that employees complete the “Horizontal Lane Movement Form” (Appendix C) to ensure that the Superintendent approves hours being taken for lane movement. If the hours are taken without prior approval the employee assumes the risk that they might not be approved.

Educational Lanes. Professional Employees on the certified salary schedule who move from one educational lane to a higher educational lane shall move to the corresponding eligible step on the higher lane. For a Professional Employee to advance from one educational lane to another, they shall file the required evidence of additional credit with the superintendent’s designee no later than August 20, or the preceding Friday, of each academic year. Pay adjustment for additional educational credit shall be made only once annually. However, if the Professional Employee will receive a Master’s or Doctorate degree during the course of the school year, and has notified the superintendent’s designee no later than August 20 of the intent to move into the Master’s or Doctorate column, the Professional Employee will be allowed to move on the salary schedule beginning with the payroll following the month the required documentation has been filed with Human Resources establishing the degree has been conferred. Movement on the salary schedule will be prospective, not retroactive to the beginning of the school year. If horizontal movement has not been ratified, the Professional Employee receiving the degree during the school year will not move to the Master’s or Doctorate column. Mid-year movement only applies to those earning an advanced degree, not those earning additional hours for horizontal movement (e.g., MS+10 to MS+20). It is understood that “hours beyond” as used below means hours earned after the conferring of the respective degree or for graduate-level coursework taken concurrently with the pursuit of a Master's degree, related to education, teaching, or the educator's area of certification, but not necessarily required for the Master's degree. Professional Employees who have attained two Masters’ degrees shall be placed on the salary schedule in a manner that provides credit for the additional hours taken to earn the second degree. Those hours taken to satisfy both degrees will not be counted twice. This provision shall not result in retroactive compensation.
