Breaks and Meal Periods. 17.1 Employees will receive two (2) breaks of ten (10) minutes per shift, one during the first half of the shift and one during the last half of the shift.
Breaks and Meal Periods. A. Employees shall receive a fifteen (15) minute (including transit time) paid rest period at approximately the midpoint of every four (4) consecutive hours of time worked. Such rest periods shall be taken at times approved by their Department Director, but shall not be added to the normal lunch period or taken at the end of the workday.

All such requests may be granted, subject to the scheduling and operational needs of the Library. All breaks and meal periods will be scheduled by supervision. The night custodian working five (5) or more consecutive hours is entitled to a one-half (1/2) hour paid meal period but is required to stay on library premises.

Breaks and Meal Periods. Employees are entitled to take breaks daily which insofar as practicable shall be in the middle of each work period. No wage deduction shall be made for such breaks. Breaks for employees working an eight (8) hour shift shall be computed on the basis of fifteen (15) minutes during each half of their work shift. Breaks for employees working a twelve (12) hour shift shall be computed on the basis of fifteen (15) minutes three (3) times during each shift. Two (2) breaks may be combined in the event that workload or scheduling conflicts prevent an employee from taking his/her break as provided for above. Arrangements to combine breaks shall be made by mutual consent between the employee and his/her supervisor and shall be consistent with staffing needs. This language shall not serve to reduce a more liberal practice now in existence. Employees scheduled to work more than five (5) hours per day shall be entitled to a thirty (30) minute meal period at, as near as practical, the middle of the workday. Except as provided below, meal periods shall be on an unpaid basis. In the event an employee is called back to work during a scheduled meal period, the scheduled meal period, not to exceed thirty (30) minutes, shall count as hours worked and the meal period shall be rescheduled within two (2) hours.

When taken, there shall be one (1) fifteen (15) minute break in the first half of the employees' shift and the other fifteen (15) minute break in the employees' second half of their shift. Breaks shall not interfere with an employee's complaint load and the opportunity to take a break is contingent upon there being available time, given the employee's complaint load. Work breaks not taken shall not accumulate.
