Washington Paid Family Medical Leave. The Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML) Act establishes a State program that generally allows eligible employees to apply for State- provided income replacement benefits during a leave of up to 12 weeks (or under certain circumstances up to 18 weeks) for qualifying reasons. Leave that is compensated under the PFML program will run concurrently with all other applicable paid or unpaid leave types available in this Agreement or by law, including FMLA leave, to the maximum extent allowed by law. Employees will be responsible for the full employee premium share allowed by law, paid through payroll deduction. The Medical Center will pay the remaining portion of the premium. Employees who receive State benefits under the PFML program will be allowed to use accrued sick leave credits and/or vacation benefits to supplement State payments, up to the employee’s net weekly earnings based on the employee’s budgeted FTE and regular rate of pay. Available accrued sick leave credits must be used before available vacation benefits. Employees must request supplemental use of sick leave credits and/or vacation benefits in writing through a process established by the Medical Center and provide appropriate information, including the date the employee became eligible for PFML benefits and documentation of the receipt of PFML payments and the weekly benefit amount received. Supplemental sick leave credits and/or vacation benefits will generally be paid within two pay periods of the employee’s request and submission of required information and documentation.

Procedures for application shall be established by WAC. The District shall maintain their portion of medical benefits when an employee is on leave. Employees may elect to use this leave after using an employee determined amount of sick leave and before accessing the provision of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Employees may use a combination of sick leave and WPFL by days of the week via a predetiermined calendar but not hourly. Parties both agree to adapting this as administatable by the state and buisness office for the benefit the employee.

Washington Paid Family Medical Leave. Employees shall be granted up to twelve (12) weeks of paid family leave to care and bond within twelve (12) months of the birth, adoption or placement of a child younger than eighteen (18) years of age, and to care for oneself, a dependent, spouse, domestic partner or parent with a serious illness or injury. An additional two (2) weeks of leave will be available when the leave is a result of pregnancy complications. Employees are eligible for up to sixteen (16) weeks of leave when family and medical leave are used in combination. For example, an expecting mother could use eight (8) weeks of family leave after giving birth to care and bond with the new child. Health and Welfare benefits shall remain in full force and affect during such leave but employees shall not accrue vacation or sick leave while out on unpaid leave. Employees shall receive compensation while out on this leave from the Washington State Employment Security Department. An employee may choose to use their accrued sick leave to supplement the state’s compensation when taking Washington Paid Family & Medical Leave. No employee shall be dismissed by the Employer during periods of vacation, sick leave or leave of absence. An employee on leave of absence for three (3) months or less shall be returned to the employee's former position, if available, or a comparable position at no less than the employee's former rate of pay plus any contractual increases. The Employer will not deny an employee's reasonable request for a leave of absence.
Washington Paid Family Medical Leave. Amend Section 7.9.1 to add the ESD’s website as follows: TA May 26, 2023 Commencing on January 1, 2020, employees may be eligible to receive Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) under the Washington State Family and Medical Leave and Insurance Act. For as long as this program is in effect, the District will pay that portion of the payroll deduction for the premium that it is required to cover by statute. Eligibility criteria for this program are determined by the state (currently employees are eligible if they work 820 hours per year). Information on this program is available through the Employment Security Department’s website xxx.xxxxxxxxx.xx.xxx.
Washington Paid Family Medical Leave. (WAPFML) Commencing January 1, 2020, employees shall be eligible to receive Paid Family and Medical Leave (WAPFML) under the Washington State Family and Medical Leave and Insurance Act. To be eligible for this leave, employees must have worked a minimum of 820 hours within the past calendar year. Such leave shall be used consecutively with the employee’s other leave entitlement unless the employee elects otherwise. Commencing January 1, 2020, the employee shall pay the monthly payroll premium as defined in the law to fund this leave. When such leave is used, the District shall maintain health insurance benefits during periods of approved WAPFML leave.
