Utility Employee. The parties recognize the need for the Employers to compete effec- tively in a changing environment. To this end, there shall be estab- lished a new position on the local cartage seniority list called a Utility Employee. The intent of the partiescreation of the Utility Employee position is to generate additional job opportunities and enhance employee earnings, by enhancing the Employer’s ability to compete and grow. Subject to the approval of the National Utility Employee Review Committee, the Employer may establish Utility Employee posi- tions at any facility at its discretion as-needed, and CDL-qualified road or local cartage employees may bid for Utility Employee po- sitions in accordance with established terminal bidding procedures. All CDL-qualified drivers with the required endorsements shall have the opportunity to transfer to the local cartage operation, if necessary, and bid for open Utility Employee positions with full seniority rights. There shall be no retreat rights for employees who transfer to the local cartage operation to bid an open Utility Em- ployee position. For example, if a road driver bids into the Utility Employee position, he relinquishes his road seniority for bidding purposes and cannot return to the road driver classification, unless through a change of operations, or bid back rights consistent with the applicable Supplement. The Employer shall be permitted to as- sign a qualified local cartage employee to a Utility Employee posi- tion on a temporary basis when necessary to pursue business oppor- tunities that become available, as long as the temporary assignment is made in seniority order and if senior employees do not accept the

Utility Employee. Full-time and Part-time The starting rate of pay for utility employees will be eighty percent (80%) of the prevailing Top rate of the trailer repair employee in the area where the trailer repair shop is located. A new utility employee, full-time or part-time, will start at fifty cents ($.50) per hour less than the above-mentioned rate and will receive a twenty-five cent ($.25) per hour increase when gaining seniority and an additional twenty- five cents ($.25) per hour after six (6) months of employment. After completing the above progression all utility employees will receive the annual GWI.
Utility Employee. Level 2An employee in this class may be engaged on tasks requiring direct supervision, performing routine tasks involving minimal training and little or no discretion on the part of the employee. Indicative tasks include the work of a labourer, bus driver, crossing guard.
Utility Employee. Level 3An employee in this class may be engaged on tasks requiring work without supervision from time to time and the performance of tasks involving the use of some discretion on the part of the employee. Typically the employee will have undergone some on the job training in this work. Indicative tasks include the work of a yard person or groundkeeper with basic skills.
Utility Employee. Level 4An employee in this class may be engaged on tasks requiring the exercise of a significant degree of discretion regarding the performance of their work. Typically the employee will have undergone some training at work or in a post-compulsory institution but shall not be required to hold any post-secondary qualification to be paid at this level. Indicative tasks include operation and maintenance of plant, stripping and polishing floors, cleaning carpet, school canteen staff, school bookshop assistant, school uniform shop assistant. ‘Utility Employee – Level 5’ An employee in this class shall either be engaged on tasks provided for in Level 4 with additional supervisory responsibilities or shall hold trade qualifications relevant to their duties. Indicative tasks include those of a carpenter, painter, school canteen, school bookshop or school uniform shop manager. ‘Utility Employee - Level 6’ An employee in this class shall be engaged on tasks provided for in Level 5 with additional supervisory responsibilities or shall be an employee with responsibilities greater than those required for Level 5. Indicative tasks include those of a utility officer with full trade qualifications, co-ordinating sub-contractors.
Utility Employee. The work of the classification of Utility Employee shall consist of the cleaning and polishing of aircraft (interior and exterior), interior cabin cleaning and setup and other cabin servicing duties in accordance with the Letter of Agreement dated October 27, 1969, the cleaning of aircraft parts, all janitorial work, operating of heating plants unless otherwise agreed to, keeping of grounds, and other utility work. The classification of Utility Employee shall apply to and include employees with the job titles of Airplane Cleaner, Parts Cleaner, Grounds Keeper, Janitor, Utility Man, Cabin Serviceman, and may include a Lead job title for each, and such other job titles as the Company and the Union may agree upon. Job titles shall be assigned to employees in the Utility Employee classification in accordance with the work performed. However, any employee in the Utility Employee classifica- tion may be required to perform any utility work. A Utility Employee who has completed his probationary period may, in addition to his work responsibilities as a Utility Employee, be required to break in another employee in the Utility Employee classification.
Utility Employee. This would permit use of utility employees within a 180 mile radius to service end of line terminals. It would not directly result in layoffs of road drivers.
