Activities of Stewards. The Union acknowledges that a Xxxxxxx has regular duties to perform on behalf of the Company, therefore, whenever possible the Xxxxxxx shall conduct their activities outside regular working hours (which excludes coffee and lunch breaks). The Employer recognizes the right of Shop Stewards to oversee the terms of the Collective Agreement being implemented and to present complaints and/or grievances to management. In a grievance situation which requires a Xxxxxxx'x attention during working hours, they shall not leave their regular duties without first obtaining permission to do so from their immediate supervisor. It is understood that the taking of such time away from regular duties shall be kept to a minimum and that permission will not, therefore, be unreasonably withheld. Stewards shall return to their regular duties as expeditiously as possible. The Company reserves the right to limit such time if the time requested is unreasonable. The Company agrees that, if in the event grievances are discussed with management during regular working hours, then all time so involved by the Xxxxxxx shall be deemed to be time worked.

While the City of Minneapolis and the Union recognize that the process may be adversarial, the parties expect that all participants conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner. Stewards shall be allowed up to three (3) compensated days off each year to attend Union sponsored training events, so long as minimum staffing levels are maintained. Such training shall be scheduled with the Employer at least thirty (30) days in advance of the event.
