Use of Vacation Time. 1. After the initial ninety (90) days of employment, vacation allowance may be taken as accrued. Vacation allowance must be taken by the end of the calendar year following the calendar year in which it is accrued.
Use of Vacation Time. A. Vacation time may not be taken before it is earned but (absent an exception in writing from the Human Resource Services Office, in which case pay for days may at the option of the Human Resource Services Office be substituted instead) must be taken within one (1) fiscal year of the fiscal year in which the time is earned.
Use of Vacation Time. Employees must submit their vacation requests to the Superintendent or his designee for approval on or before June 1. The employee will be advised of its approval by June 15. It is recognized that the majority of the vacation time is to be taken during the months of June, July and August. However, up to five (5) vacation days may be banked to be used at a later date, with the prior approval of the Superintendent or his designee. It is further recognized that all approved vacation time must take into account the smooth operation of the district. The employees recognize that occasionally emergencies arise that require them to work during scheduled vacation time. These emergencies include but are not limited to the following: unexpected resignations, difficulty in finding qualified staff, scheduling difficulties and/or computer problems. When these situations occur and the employee is able to alter his scheduled vacation and does work and, with the prior approval of the Superintendent or his designee, the employee may bank all or a portion of unused vacation time.
Use of Vacation Time a. It is the intent that vacation time be used in time increments sufficiently long enough to permit the employee an adequate period of rest. The use of vacation time in less than weekly increments is to be discouraged. In no event may vacation be taken in increments of less than one-hour nor for a period exceeding the number of accrued whole days except upon the recommendation of the Department Head. With the written recommendation of the Department Head and approval of the Human Resources Officer, a permanent employee may incur a negative vacation balance of up to five (5) days, or 4.6668 shifts for Fire Department personnel. Use of Vacation Time. Accrued Vacation Time must be used prior to taking any time off without pay. Vacation Time used for reasons other than to cover the nurse’s illness or injury or a child’s illness must be prescheduled and approved. Approval is contingent on staffing and department needs.
Use of Vacation Time. In departments where it may be necessary to suspend certain operations because of holidays, interim periods, or vacations, employees involved may use accrued vacation for hours they would have regularly worked if the suspension of operations had not occurred. Departments planning a suspension of operations will notify the employees of the date of their anticipated suspension of operation by January 15. In no case will any employee be paid more vacation hours than they have accrued immediately before the beginning of the suspension of operations period.

Police Officers may carryover a maximum of one (1) year of earned vacation allowance into the next succeeding year. Any vacation accrued in excess of the one year maximum carryover allowance will be forfeited.
