TEACHER PROTECTION. A. If a teacher, in connection with his employment, is subjected to assault or battery, he shall immediately report the incident and the circumstances to his Principal. The Principal shall forward the report to the Executive Director of Elementary/Middle or Secondary Schools, as appropriate, with a copy to the Union.
TEACHER PROTECTION. A. Any case of assault upon the teacher in pursuit of his/her duties shall be promptly reported to the Board or its designees. The Board shall provide legal counsel to the teacher to advise the teacher of his/her rights and obligations with respect to such assault.
TEACHER PROTECTION. A. The teachers shall have the right to review those things in his/her personnel file to which he/she is entitled by Law. At the option of the teacher, a representative of the Association may be present for such review. Each file shall contain a record indicating reviewer and date of review, excluding school personnel official access for record maintenance.
TEACHER PROTECTION. The Board agrees that every certificated classroom teacher of the District shall have the right to freely join and support the Association for the purpose of engaging in negotiations and that it will not discriminate against any employee on the basis of membership, or participation in, or association with, the activities of the Association. The Association agrees that it will, without discrimination, represent all certificated employees, except the Superintendent, principals, and assistant principals, for purposes of negotiations, without regard to membership or participation in the Association.
TEACHER PROTECTION. All teachers will be entitled to fair, reasonable and equitable treatment when processing grievances. A teacher who participates or intends to participate in any grievance as described herein shall not be subjected to discipline, reprimand, warning, or reprisal because of such participation or intention. All documents, communications, and records dealing with the processing of a grievance will be filed separately from the personnel files of the participant.
TEACHER PROTECTION. The Board agrees to protect and indemnify teachers employed by the District and covered by this Agreement from suit to the extent provided by Section 10-20.20 of the Illinois School Code. A teacher shall report as soon as possible in writing to his/her principal and to the Director of Personnel all cases of assault and/or battery suffered by him/her in connection with his/her employment, and all facts concerning the incident. The principal or designee shall investigate the incident and shall provide appropriate assistance to the teacher and law enforcement authorities in the investigation of such incident. In addition, the principal or designee shall acknowledge receipt by the end of next school day of any safety concerns about the work environment that are submitted to the principal by the affected teacher.

TEACHER PROTECTION. A. The Board recognizes its responsibilities to continue to give administrative backing and support to its teachers, although each teacher bears the primary responsibility for maintaining proper control and discipline in his/her classroom. The Building Student Behavior Committee (BSBC) and District Student Behavior Committee (DSBC) will be utilized to assist in fulfilling these responsibilities.
TEACHER PROTECTION. A. The Board recognizes its responsibility to continue to give administrative backing and support to its teachers, although each teacher bears the primary responsibility for maintaining proper control and discipline in the classroom. The teachers recognize that all disciplinary actions and methods invoked by them shall be reasonable and just, and in accordance with established Board policy. It shall be the responsibility of the teacher to report to his/her principal the name of any student who, in the opinion of the teacher, needs particular assistance from skilled personnel. The teacher shall, upon request, be advised by the principal of the disposition of the teacher's report that a particular student needs such assistance.
TEACHER PROTECTION. Teachers complying with Board Rules and Regulations and who are acting in the line of duty, with respect to maintenance of control and discipline in the classroom and other school activities, shall be given support and assistance by the Board. Teachers recognize a mutual responsibility for the enforcement of school law, order and policies. Therefore, in all cases, the teacher shall follow the District's established disciplinary process. The Board recognizes its responsibility to give reasonable support and assistance to the teachers with regard to the maintenance of control and discipline in the classroom. Whenever it appears to the classroom teacher that a pupil and/or pupils require the attention of special counselors, social workers, law enforcement personnel, physicians or other professional persons, a recommendation will be submitted to the Administration, and such action as the Administration deems appropriate will be taken and communicated to the teacher.
