Extended Personal Illness Leave. Extended paid leave shall be provided to teachers as follows:
Extended Personal Illness Leave. Any employee who suffers from a serious medical condition and such condition extends beyond accumulated sick leave allowable, may be granted a leave of absence of up to one (1) year without pay or increment in accordance with applicable law.
Extended Personal Illness Leave. Any teacher, after using their accumulated paid personal illness leave and who is still unable to work due to illness or injury, shall be entitled to extend personal illness leave, subject to verification every three (3) weeks from a health practitioner licensed by the state. Extended personal illness leave shall begin after all accumulated paid personal illness leave has been used and shall extend no more than five (5) calendar months (calculated as 152 calendar days) during the school year. During the period of extended personal illness leave, the bargaining unit member shall receive partial pay equal to the difference between their regular pay and the daily substitute rate. If no substitute is employed, the bargaining unit member shall receive partial pay equal to the difference between their regular pay and the daily substitute rate. A bargaining unit member shall not be provided more than one (1) five (5) month period per illness or accident in any school year. If a school year terminates before the five (5) month period is exhausted, the bargaining unit member may take the balance of the five (5) month period in a subsequent school year. When a bargaining unit member has exhausted all available sick leave, including accumulated sick leave, and continues to be absent on account of illness or accident for a period beyond the five (5) month period, and the bargaining unit member is not medically able to resume the duties of their position, the bargaining unit member shall be placed on a reemployment list for a period of twenty-four (24) months if the bargaining unit member is on probationary status, or for a period of thirty-nine (39) months if the bargaining unit member is on permanent status. When the bargaining unit member is medically able, during the twenty-four (24) or thirty-nine (39) month period, the bargaining unit member shall be returned to employment in a position for which they are credentialed and qualified. The twenty-four (24) or thirty-nine (39) month period shall commence at the expiration of the five (5) month period provided above. In the absence of a vacancy this may require placement in the substitute pool at the applicable rate of pay. Upon request by District management, bargaining unit member shall be required to present a certificate verifying the personal illness or injury; the form to be utilized and the source, whether bargaining unit member or doctor shall be at the sole discretion of the District. Extended Personal Illness Leave. When any Teacher exhausts all accumulated paid leave and temporary disability leave time during an extended illness while under the care of a physician, the Teacher may apply for an extended personal illness leave for up to 175 teaching days for that illness. If granted by the Board, said leave shall be without pay. Requests for such discretionary leave shall be made in accordance with Article 4.16 of this Agreement and shall be subject to all the terms and conditions set forth in that Article.
Extended Personal Illness Leave. 1. Any teacher whose personal illness extends beyond the period of accumulated and extended sick leave will, upon written application and approval of the Superintendent, be granted an unpaid leave of absence for such time as is necessary for complete recovery from such illness, up to a maximum of four (4) years. Such request for leave of absence shall be granted for up to one (1) year and must be supported by a physician's certificate. The leave may be renewed and each subsequent request for renewal shall also be supported by a physician's certificate. At the end of four (4) years, the teacher's employment may be terminated, subject to the applicable tenure provisions of the New York State Education Law.

The employee may be required to furnish a medical certificate from a qualified physician as evidence of illness or physical disability in order to qualify for paid sick leave as per District practice. Accumulated sick leave may also be granted for such time as is actually necessary for office visits to a doctor, dentist, optometrist, etc.

  • Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness Leave a) Family Medical Leave or Critical Illness leaves granted to a permanent Teacher or long-term Occasional Teacher under this Article shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Standards Act, 2000, as amended.

  • Personal/Xxxxx’s Leave 7.3.1 All full time employees shall be entitled to accrue paid personal / carer's leave on the basis of 10 days per year (or pro-rata thereof for any period less than one year). Part-time employees are entitled to a pro-rata benefit. Paid personal / carer's leave is cumulative.
