Extended Illness. Sick leave for extended illness (5 or more days) will be paid only during the time period in which a physician certifies the employee to be physically or mentally disabled, and only to the extent of the number of days accumulated.

Extended Illness. (a) An Employee who has exhausted all sick leave credits during the course of an illness, and the illness continues, shall be deemed to be on leave of absence without pay for the duration of the illness or as provided below.
Extended Illness. Unit members are entitled to receive differential compensation, under Education Code section 44977, for a period of up to five (5) school months. Differential compensation shall be the difference between the employee's daily salary (annual salary divided by the number of teacher work days) and the salary actually paid a substitute employee.
Extended Illness. A leave of absence without pay of up to one (1) year may be granted for an extended illness after an employee has exhausted all but forty (40) hours of other paid leave of Article 29. Prior to requesting an extended illness leave, the employee shall inform the Employer in writing of the nature of the illness and the estimated length of time needed for leave, with written verification by a medical doctor. The employee may be required to provide periodic written verification by a medical doctor indicating the diagnosis and expected duration of the illness. The Employer may require an examination by a physician paid by the Employer to evaluate the employee’s ability to return to work. If on the basis of this examination it is determined that the employee is physically capable of returning to work, the leave may be canceled.
Extended Illness. Any employee absent because of an extended or serious illness shall furnish the Superintendent, prior to return to service, a statement from a licensed physician indicating that his/her health is satisfactory for return to duties.
Extended Illness. For an extended illness up to one (1) year, if an employee has exhausted all other paid leave. The employee shall provide periodic, written verification by a medical doctor showing the diagnosis, prognosis and expected duration of the illness. Prior to requesting an extended illness leave, the employee shall inform the Employer in writing of the nature of the illness and estimated length of time needed for leave, with written verification by a medical doctor. If the Employer questions the employee's ability to perform his/her regularly assigned duties, the Employer may require a decision from an impartial medical doctor paid by the Employer as to determine the employee's ability to return to work. If the employee is determined to be physically capable to return to work, the employee may be terminated if he/she refuses to return to work. In the event of conflicting medical opinion in Worker's Compensation Cases, the order of the Industrial Commission District Hearing Officer shall be controlling with regard to the employee's ability to return to work.
Extended Illness. Any tenured teacher whose personal illness extends beyond the period compensated will be granted a leave-of-absence without pay or increment for such time as is necessary for complete recovery to a maximum of one year. Further extensions may be granted at the will of the Board. Upon return from leave, a teacher may be assigned to the same or similar position, providing a vacancy exists.

Extended Illness. An employee who shall exhaust all accumulated sick leave, but who shall continue to be sick or disabled and unable to return to employment, shall be granted, upon application in writing to the Superintendent or designee, a leave of absence without pay for a portion of or the balance of the school year. Provided that when the employee's physician does not release the employee without restriction on the indicated return date, the employee shall be entitled to, one (1) additional leave for a portion of or the balance of the school year. In instances where the employee’s illness is prolonged and continuous, such application shall be transmitted not later than ten (10) working days following the exhaustion of sick leave, provided that the Board may waive the ten (10) day requirement when conditions surrounding the illness do not permit the application for said leave. In all other instances where sick leave is exhausted, the application for said leave shall be transmitted within two (2) working days after the affected employee returns to work. The Board shall continue to grant full insurance benefits to such employees for a period of sixty (60) calendar days, provided that an additional twenty-five (25) calendar days be granted to such employees who are disabled because of injuries received while in the performance of work assigned by the Board. If such employee shall continue to be sick or disabled, he/she may apply for one (1) additional year of leave without pay by filing a request for the same in writing to the Superintendent or designee no later than April 1.
Extended Illness. For employees who accrue personal leave under Personal Leave Plan E:
Extended Illness. Any employee who is absent for a continuous prolonged period of time because of serious illness or disability (which is not compensable under Worker’s Compensation) and who has exhausted his/her sick leave, and who intends to accept the benefits of the salary continuance insurance program (i.e. long term disability program), may appeal to the Superintendent for an extension of sick leave benefits. Such additional benefits shall not exceed sixty (60) days. All such absences are subject to verification by a licensed physician designated by the Employer.
