Active Restriction Measures. The school, either by itself or in combination with the Data Acquisition Site providing Internet access, will utilize filtering software or other technologies to prevent users from accessing visual depictions that are (1) obscene, (2) pornographic, or (3) harmful to minors. We are using Fortinet’s Fortigate and Go Guardian for our technology protection measure (internet filtering software) to ensure that users are not accessing such depictions or any other material that is inappropriate for minors. Internet filtering software or other technology-based protection systems may be disabled by a supervising teacher or school administrator, as necessary, for purposes of bona fide research or other educational projects being conducted by students age 17 and older. The term “harmful to minors” is defined by the Communications Act of 1934 (47 USC Section 254 [h][7]), as meaning any picture, image, graphic image file, or other visual depiction that - taken as a whole and with respect to minors, appeals to a prurient interest in nudity, sex, or excretion; - depicts, describes, or represents, in a patently offensive way with respect to what is suitable for minors, an actual or simulated sexual act or sexual contact, actual or simulated normal or perverted sexual acts, or a lewd exhibition of the genitals; - taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value as to minors.

This includes but is not limited to profanity; racist, sexist or discriminatory remarks. ● Staff using blogs, podcasts or other web tools are expected to act safely by keeping ALL personal information out of their posts. ● A staff member should NEVER post personal information on the web (including, but not limited to, last names, personal details including address or phone numbers, or photographs). Do not, under any circumstances, agree to meet someone you have met over the Internet. ● Any personal blog a staff member creates in class is directly linked to the class blog which is typically linked to the staff profile, and therefore must follow these blogging guidelines. In addition to following the information above about not sharing too much personal information (in the profile or in any posts/comments made), students need to realize that anywhere they use that login it links back to the class blog. Therefore, anywhere that login is used (posting to a separate personal blog, commenting on someone else's blog, etc.), the account should be treated the same as a school blog and follow these guidelines. The District shall also monitor the online activities of students, through direct observation and/or technological means, to ensure that students are not accessing such material or any other material, which is inappropriate for minors. Internet-filtering software or other technology-based protection systems may be disabled with the permission of an administrator, as deemed necessary and appropriate, for purposes of bona fide research or other educational projects being conducted by students age 17 and older. For purposes of this policy, the term “harmful to minors” shall be defined in the same manner as in the Communications Act of 1934, as amended (47 USC 254) {h} {7} {G}, which means:  Taken as a whole and with respect to minors, appeals to a prurient interest in nudity, sex, or excretion;  Depicts, describes or represents, in a patently offensive way with respect to what is suitable for minors, an actual or simulated sexual act or sexual contact, actual or simulated normal or perverted sexual acts or lewd exhibition of the genitals; and  Taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value as to minors. For purposes of enforcing this policy and as for other purposes in the District’s operation of its network, the District reserves the right to monitor, inspect, copy, review and store without prior notice any activity of the computer network and Internet access, and any information transmitted or received in connection with such usage. All such information files shall be and remain the property of the District, and no user shall have any expectation of privacy regarding such materials.
