Teacher Responsibilities. Each teacher shall be under the general direction of the Superintendent and immediately responsible to the Building Principal for carrying out the policies of the Board of Education as they relate to the school system, to the school, to the classroom, and to the immediate contact with students and parents. The teacher's specific responsibility shall be:
8.02.01. A To provide guidance to the student which will promote his/her welfare and his/her proper educational development.
8.02.01. B To monitor student progress and use data-based decisions regarding student response to instruction and intervention.
8.02.01. C To use assessments to screen, diagnose and progress monitor student response to instruction.
8.02.01. D To direct and evaluate the learning experiences of the students, and to encourage and motivate the students in their learning.
8.02.01. E To be responsible for student accounting.
8.02.01. F To keep parents informed of student progress and/or difficulties.
8.02.01. G To engage in planning through cooperation with the Administrative Staff the continuous improvement of the curriculum, instruction, and evaluation of the school program.
8.02.01. H To attend faculty meetings, department meetings, and institutes during the normal school year. Other in-service educational programs of Glenbard Township High School District #87 shall be optional for teachers, except additional workshops may be required for teachers during their first year of employment.
Teacher Responsibilities. 3.1 It is the responsibility of the Association and each individual teacher to honor Board policies and administrative regulations that are not in conflict with the terms of this Agreement.
3.2 The teachers’ responsibilities to their students and their profession entail the performance of duties and the expenditure of time beyond the regular classroom duty hours, which include:
A. Careful daily preparation of lesson plans to meet the needs of students on different levels of ability. Plans should be available for review by appropriate supervisors and for use by substitutes and shall include a general course outline to cover anticipated or unanticipated long-term absence by the teacher.
B. Objective evaluation of the progress of each student
C. Observation of students in a variety of circumstances and recording of pertinent information for confidential use by teachers, counselors, and principal.
D. Discussion of student learning problems with parents in a professional and objective manner.
E. Consideration of home conditions which hamper learning and make scheduling of parent-teacher conferences during usual hours impossible.
F. Participation in curricular activities intended for individual professional growth of teachers and for the progressive evaluation of the K-12 curriculum.
(1) Faculty meetings.
(2) Department meetings to discuss immediate problems.
(3) Grade-level meetings to discuss current policy, develop budget requests, or coordinate teaching efforts in a subject area.
(4) Discussion period with principal, counselor, or subject coordinator to seek solutions for individual teaching problems.
(5) Previewing audio-visual materials.
(6) Examination of new tests and teaching equipment.
(7) Reading professional journals.
3.3 Each teacher shall deem it his/her responsibility to participate in public-oriented activities related to his/her teaching assignment and building, such as:
A. Parent Teacher Conferences (Whenever possible, all secondary level conferences will be held on Thursdays).
B. Fall Curriculum Night
3.4 Each teacher should deem it his/her responsibility to participate in public-oriented activities related to his/her teaching assignment and building, such as:
A. Public performances of children in plays, concerts, athletics, etc.
B. Graduation and/or Honors night.

Teacher Responsibilities. A. It is the responsibility of the Association and each individual teacher, as well as the Board, to provide the highest quality educational program possible for every student in the district. This includes:
1. Careful daily preparation.
2. Participation in building and district-wide curriculum study.
3. Supervision of students outside the classroom is a shared responsibility of teachers and building administrators.
4. Participation in public-oriented activities of the school when it concerns a particular teacher, such as:
a. Open houses,
b. Public performances of children in plays, concerts, athletic activities or other extra-curricular activities. This provision shall be on a voluntary basis as long as there are a sufficient number of teachers available. If necessary, the building principal may assign teachers for each activity or function provided that teachers shall not be required to remain more than forty-five (45) minutes after the conclusion of such events. For purposes of this Section teachers shall not be required to transport students in conjunction with their supervision of these activities.
5. Each principal may require the attendance of teachers at meetings, which are contiguous to the normal school day.
6. The assignment of the teachers for adequate recess coverage shall be on a rotating basis as established by the building administrators in consultation with their staffs.
7. Building checkout is complete when all report cards are submitted. Teachers have until 2:00 p.m. of the weekday following the last student day to submit their report cards. Teachers have the responsibility to exercise independent judgment and discretion in the execution of their classroom and extra-curricular activities; however, this responsibility to exercise independent judgment and discretion is not intended to encourage insubordination.
B. Teachers are expected to comply with reasonable rules, regulations and directions adopted by the Board or its representatives which are not inconsistent with the provisions of this Agreement. A partial list of these duties shall include:
1. Teachers will have readily available lesson plans for use by substitutes. Teachers shall also prepare and maintain written evidence of adequate planning which will enable principals to review such planning for the purpose of making constructive suggestions to improve teacher performance and to provide a continuous educational program.

Teacher Responsibilities. The district is committed to a partnership between employees and patrons, and such partnerships are best established when patrons respect the professional responsibilities of teachers and teachers invite the participation of patrons, which is properly channeled, including but not limited to the established SCC and SIC bodies. The district holds teachers accountable for the satisfactory fulfillment of accountability goals and teaching expectancies. The professionally trained teacher is expected to establish standards of student performance, learning environment, student control, teaching strategies and content.

All teachers covered by this Agreement shall perform the teaching and non-teaching services prescribed by the School District and shall be governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, and by the School Board rules, regulations, directives and orders, issued by properly designated officials of the School District, provided the rules, regulations, directives, and orders are not inconsistent with this Agreement or with the laws.

Section 29.2 While community issues may be discussed appropriately during class time, the Association and the District will attempt to prevent the involvement of students in possible Association and District controversies.
Section 29.3 Teachers will be responsible for the maintenance and completion of school records related to their assigned pupils as may be required by the District.
Section 29.4 If an open house program is scheduled for a building, teachers will attend the program unless excused by the supervisor. Teachers assigned to more than one (1) building will attend the Open House at the building of the majority of their assignment. Attendance at the other building is at the teacher’s discretion. The teachers, with their building principal, will develop and approve the program.
Section 29.5 Teachers may volunteer to serve on district or building committees. As collaboration is a part of the philosophy of the school district, members are encouraged to participate in committees which exemplify this practice. However, probationary teachers will not serve on more than one (1) committee at a time.
Teacher Responsibilities. A. A teacher who resigns prior to the school year shall make every effort to submit his resignation no later than August 1.
B. Any violation of responsibilities outlined in this contract shall be judged sufficient grounds for appropriate disciplinary action by the Board of Education.
C. Teachers shall be held accountable for school materials, equipment and facilities while under their supervision and shall properly store such school property in facilities provided by the school.
D. Teachers are responsible for all students within reason, what is reasonable considering proximity and awareness. Teachers need to intervene if it’s anything that affects a safe and secure environment.
E. Teachers shall keep accurate records of attendance, grades and class counts and should respond in a timely fashion to reasonable requests for relevant information.
F. For the duration of the Master Agreement, the Association will not engage in, authorize, encourage, either directly or indirectly, any concerted interruption of education activities due to a cessation, withdrawal, or withholding of services in any manner or form, either in whole or part, by members of the Association or member of the bargaining unit shall be empowered to provoke, instigate, cause, participate in, assist, encourage or prolong any such prohibited activity.
G. Teachers shall be responsible to refer students who are experiencing difficulties in class.
H. The Association shall designate a teacher in each school building as the Association Representative (A.R.) to meet with the principal. The principal and A.R. shall meet at the request of either party for the purpose of reviewing the administration of the contract and to resolve problems, which may arise. These meetings are not intended to bypass the grievance procedure.
I. Since professional development days are required by state law and the contract, teachers must attend the number required by the contract. The days must be made up no later than the last student day. If teachers miss professional development day(s) scheduled during the day in the school year, they must make up the day(s) according to an approved plan. The teacher will be charged a sick day but will gain that sick day back when they make up that day by the end of the school year. If they do not make up the day(s) missed by the last student day, they shall be docked a full day’s pay, will not be credited their sick day, and may be subject to discipline. Teacher Responsibilities. A. In addition to teaching, the school day will be used by teachers for:
1. Planning and preparing for classes.
2. Evaluating pupil progress.
3. Reporting evaluations of pupil progress to the school administration and to the parents of the children whom they teach.
4. Providing professional service to the school and the community for the purpose of assisting in the development and implementation of quality education in the system.
5. Furnishing essential reports and information required by administrators.
B. Teachers are expected to participate in extra school activities such as the following:
1. Attendance at faculty meetings and departmental meetings.
2. Attendance at in-service training sessions.
3. Attendance at parent meetings when planned by teachers and the building principal.
4. Participating in system-wide committees.
5. Parent-teacher conferences.
C. Teachers’ participation in extra-curricular activities for which no compensation is paid will be voluntary. At the same time, the teachers recognize that their responsibility to their students and their profession requires the performance of duties that involve the expenditure of time beyond that of a normal working day, including preparation for and supervision of extra- curricular student activities and functions.
D. The teachers recognize their shared responsibility with the administration and the Board to assume an active role in supervising students in the building throughout the normal school day.
E. Teachers will be expected to remain on duty as long as needed in the event of emergency situations. (As an example, but not by way of limitation, emergency situations do not mean inclement weather).
F. Teachers will not leave their buildings during working hours without the consent of the building principal or his/her designated representative.
G. Teachers shall be informed of alternative phone numbers to call to report unavailability for work. The teacher will make every effort to report by 6:30 a.m. if he/she will be unavailable for work. Once a teacher has reported unavailability, it shall be the responsibility of the administration to arrange for a substitute teacher.
Teacher Responsibilities. 1. The teacher shall file only one (1) appeal document; and
2. The teacher’s appeal document will be in writing and shall state all grounds for the appeal per section (B) above. Any grounds not stated in the original appeal document will be deemed waived and will not be considered in the appeal; and
3. He or she will have the burden to demonstrate that a rating of effective was appropriate. The teacher will be responsible for providing evidence/ artifacts supporting a rating change to any of the quality standard(s) or element(s) in dispute; and
4. The teacher will be responsible for timely responding to any requests for information.
