Xxxxxxx and Users - Despite every effort for supervision and filtering, all Users and their parents/guardians are advised that access to the electronic Network may include the potential for access to materials inappropriate for school-aged students. They shall include a filtering device that protects against Internet access by both adults and minors to visual depictions that are: (1) obscene, (2) pornographic, or (3) harmful or inappropriate for students, as defined by the Children’s Internet Protection Act and as determined by the Superintendent or designee. The school will not take any responsibility for incidents that occur outside of school hours using these networks. Parents/guardians should be aware that many of these social network sites/apps have minimum age requirements to join. For example: Facebook – 13 years old and Instagram – 13 years old. Students acknowledge that:  The school’s network filters will be applied to their connection to the internet and attempts will not be made to bypass them  Bringing on premises or infecting the network with a virus, Trojan, or program designed to damage, alter, destroy or provide access to unauthorised data or information is in violation of Student Acceptable Use Policy/.  Processing or accessing information on school property related to “hacking”, “altering” or bypassing network security policies is in violation of Student Acceptable Use Policy  Waitara High School has the right to collect and examine any device that is suspected of causing problems or was the source of an attack or virus infection  The school has the right to collect devices and inspect files on any device brought onto campus irrespective of if it has been the cause of a problem/attack/virus. This covers devices that may contain pornography/objectionable material obtained offsite and stored on the Student Owned Device.  Files may have to be saved on the C drive of the laptop, a flash drive, an external drive or another media device.  It is the owner’s responsibility for the repair of any malfunctioning/damaged devices. The Waitara High School does not supply technical services for student owned devices.  Personal technology is charged prior to bringing it to school and runs off its own battery while at school. Charging your device will be available on a limited basis and is at the discretion of the classroom teacher.  Teachers will encourage the use of personal digital devices whenever possible and students will be able to use them for homework activities.  Students will use cloud based applications such as Office 365 and OneDrive for file Management and are responsible for ensuring backups are made of these files.  Rules including cyber-safety policies, governing the use of any school-owned digital device will apply to student-owned devices, while they are at school, including adherence to the Copyright Act.
