Leave for Educational Purposes. 1. A leave may be requested for educational purposes which may be unrelated to the faculty member’s instructional area. A faculty member who is not on trial service shall, upon approval, be granted a leave of absence for educational purposes without pay for up to one year. A faculty member who has served for ten years shall, upon approval, be granted a leave of absence for educational purposes without pay for up to two years. No request for leave for educational purposes shall be unreasonably denied provided there is a reasonable expectation the faculty member will return to employment with the College, and the College is able to provide staffing for the employee on leave. A faculty member granted a leave of absence for educational purposes agrees to return to service for the College for an amount of time equal to the length of the leave. To initiate this process, the employee completes a Personnel Transaction Request form for "Leave of Absence," and submits it to his/her immediate supervisor at least 90 days in advance of the commencement of the leave.

Leave for Educational Purposes. When an employee participates in a professional activity which reflects favorably on the District as well as on the individual employee, and when it is necessary for the employee to miss up to five (5) contracted days in order to participate in said opportunity and when the absence is not a continuing occurrence that puts an undue burden on the District, his/her salary will not be deducted. However, the employee taking leave under this policy shall reimburse the District in the amount of any stipend received prorated to the number of days’ leave taken, excluding transportation and any other regularly accepted per diem expenses.
