Emergency Closing of Schools. If a teacher finds that he or she cannot report for assignment because of hazardous road conditions, substitute wages only will be deducted from such teacher's salary unless personal leave is taken.

In the event that a school must be closed due to emergencies resulting from unforeseen problems with the physical plant, BCPSS shall make reasonable effort to notify teachers of their alternate assignments before reporting time. In the event that all schools are closed due to a weather or other emergency, employees assigned to School Headquarters at North Avenue may take liberal leave if School Headquarters is open.
Emergency Closing of Schools. School secretaries and office assistants who are designated as essential employees in Board policy and regulations may take liberal leave using accrued vacation leave, which shall not be denied, when all schools are closed for weather or other emergencies. Absence for this purpose shall not be counted as an occasion under the Board’s attendance program nor will the absence be considered in the employee’s annual evaluation. Community School Site Specialists, Community School Specialists, and Student Wholeness Specialists need not report to work when all schools are closed for weather and other emergencies.
Emergency Closing of Schools. 10.01 All of the schools in the system will be open on all regularly scheduled days unless closed by the Superintendent because of an emergency. The work day shall be rescheduled, unless waived by the Commissioner of Education.

The Superintendent or designee may authorize the temporary closing of schools on days because of disease, epidemic, hazardous weather conditions, damage to a school building or other temporary circumstances due to utility failure rendering the building unfit for school use.
Emergency Closing of Schools. A. During the school year, there may be days when it is impossible for pupils to attend school because of public calamity such as when snow and/or ice make roads and highways unsafe for travel or a building has to be closed for major repairs.
Emergency Closing of Schools. A. It shall be the responsibility of the school district to determine when it is necessary to close school. Every effort will be made to communicate announcements of emergency school closing to appropriate television and radio stations as early in the morning as possible. When the schools are closed to students, due to the above conditions, employees shall not be required to report for duty.

In the event the District closes a school or schools for an entire day, Paraeducator employees do not have to report for work, and this day shall be paid with no deduction for pre-arranged personal or sick leave days. In the event there are additional school closings for an entire day, Paraeducators will be required to make up the lost time by working extra hours, attending staff meetings, or attending a workshop as directed by the principal or administrator. Individual building principals (or their designee, i.e. special education teacher or supervisor) will arrange the make-up time with their building Paraeducators. At the employee’s discretion, personal leave time, sick time or any banked compensatory time may be drawn as the make-up time. Additionally, in the event that District declares a late start, all Paraeducator employees are required to report to work by the designated late start time for student (or their normal start time, if after the designated late start time). On such occasions, Paraeducators shall be paid as if it were a normal, contracted work day with no deduction for pre-arranged sick time. In the event that there are multiple late start days, it will be at the discretion of district human resources if the time will need to be made up.
Emergency Closing of Schools. 5.31 It shall be the responsibility of the Board to determine whether conditions warrant the closing of schools. If it is determined that a school or schools should be closed (and no delayed opening is planned), employees of those schools shall not be required to report to their job assignments and will not suffer any loss of pay. If a building is closed after the start of the normal work day, the employee shall suffer no loss of pay for that day. All employees are required to report for duty at times when only a fraction of the school system may be closed down. In the event of an emergency when only some children are excused on a scheduled day of attendance, instructional paraprofessionals may be reassigned to other duties or buildings for the duration of the emergency.
Emergency Closing of Schools. Section A - When an emergency confronts the schools, notification of the closing of schools will be released for broadcast over the District’s alert system and appropriate media outlets, but by no later than 6:00 A.M. by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
