Length of Teacher Day. 24.1 The unit member’s day is 7 ¾ continuous hours, including an uninterrupted one-half (1/2) hour duty free lunch. The Board will not increase the length of the present teacher work day without providing proportionate compensation to those affected members. However, the parties recognize and acknowledge that members have traditionally been required to perform some duties beyond the established work day and work year and that members will continue to perform such duties and that an individual's schedule will not be adjusted beyond established district practices. It is an expectation that all members participate in job-related professional development outside of the regular contract day appropriate to the position in the particular year (by way of example Kindergarten Readiness Assessment training in the Summer of 2014 for all kindergarten teachers). Beginning in the 2014-15 school year, all members shall annually receive a stipend amount of $425 no later than the first pay period in June for this expectation.
Length of Teacher Day. The student day at the elementary schools will begin at 8:40 a.m. and end at 3:25 p.m., and the elementary teacher day will run from 8:20 a.m. to 3:35 p.m., with a 55 minute lunch. The student day at the middle schools will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m., and the middle school teacher day will run from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Effective the 2016-2017 school year, on the student early release day each week (see Section 8.12), the student day at the elementary schools will begin at 8:40 a.m. and end at 2:25 p.m., and the elementary teacher day will run from 8:20 a.m. to 3:55 p.m., with a 55 minute lunch. Elementary school teachers shall meet from 2:40 p.m. to 3:55 p.m. The student day at the middle schools will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m., and the middle school teacher day will run from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Middle school teachers shall meet from 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The school day for the morning Early Childhood program will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The afternoon Early Childhood program will run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. LMC Directors will be afforded the opportunity to work two (2) additional days before the start of the school year in which to supervise new LMC Assistants. LMC Directors will be granted per diem pay for the additional days worked as stated above.

The bargaining unit member is to report fifteen (15) minutes prior to the time the bell rings to start the first class for students and shall remain on duty for ten (10) minutes after the bell rings to end school. This period of time shall not be used in calculating the teacher planning time. Teachers who have received previous approval from the building administration may leave their assignment early. Early dismissal shall not be granted to a teacher when the extra assignment is no longer dictated or needed.

To promote the effective use of all other teacher preparation time, administrators will be sensitive to the teachers’ needs to effectively plan and collaborate for instruction.

All elementary and middle school teachers shall assume their professional responsibilities in the assigned building at least ten (10) minutes before the opening of the pupils’ regular school day. High school teachers shall assume their professional responsibilities in their assigned building at least fifteen minutes before the opening of the pupils’ regular day. High School teachers shall remain at least ten (10) minutes after the close of the pupils’ regular school day. Middle school teachers shall remain at least five (5) minutes after the close of the pupils’ regular school day. All elementary teachers shall remain five (5) minutes after the close of the pupils’ regular school day to attend to those matters, which properly require attention at that time. On days preceding holidays or recesses, the teacher’s day shall end after the pupils clear the area of the teacher’s responsibility.
