If no employee in the building accepts the assignment, the District will first attempt to fill 47 the absence from a list of volunteers. A list of qualified District-wide employees interested in working 48 for a head custodian shall be maintained. Assignment from the list shall be based on seniority and 1 those employees who have not already begun a shift when the absence becomes known. The District 2 shall work to prevent the reassignment of employees on the list to non-head custodial jobs as a result of 3 otherwise available substitutes being assigned a Head Custodial position. Employees filling a head 4 custodian position shall remain assigned to that head custodian position until the head custodian 5 returns, notwithstanding Section 10.7.3. If no eligible employee is found, then the District may assign a 6 substitute employee to fill in for the position.

WORK PERFORMED IN HIGHER CLASSIFICATION. 9.1. An employee who is temporarily required to perform work of a higher classification shall be paid the wages of the higher job classification for a minimum of four (4) hours per shift or actual hours worked, whichever is greater. Provided, if an employee is required to operate an equipment, (a) employee has completed the required number of training hours for the affected equipment reflected in “APPENDIX C;” and (b) employee has been certified by the Public Works Director, or his/her designee, as fully qualified to operate the affected piece(s) of equipment. Provided further, an employee will receive additional compensation for work performed in the higher job classification of single axle truck driver when operating/driving vehicles with a GVWR of 20,000 lbs. or greater (see APPENDIX D), and also, an employee operating any vehicle that has been modified to be used as a sander and/or snowplow and is being operated in that capacity shall also receive the higher job classification of single axle truck driver, and also, an employee who is temporarily assigned to perform the work of an Assistant Supervisor (ASU) shall receive the ASU rate of pay while performing the work.
