Leave of Absence for Union Duties. An employee who is elected or appointed to an office with the Union shall, upon application in writing by the Union to the Clerk-Treasurer, be granted leave of absence, without pay, for a period of three (3) months. Upon similar application by the Union within the period of such leave, the employee shall be granted an extension thereof upon similar terms.
Leave of Absence for Union Duties. Any member of the Union being elected to a permanent office in the Union, or as a delegate to any Union activity necessitating temporary leave of absence, shall be granted such leave of absence and shall, at the end of the term in the first instance, or at the end of his mission in the second instance, be restored, within six (6) months, to his former position or to a position of similar type at the then prevailing wage rate. Not more than one-half of this group, except by mutual agreement, shall be off under this provision at any one time and the length of time any one employee may be off under this provision shall not exceed two (2) consecutive weeks. Each period of absence shall be separately requested. Upon written authority from the Local Union, the Company will pay the employee's regular pay for the absence and the Local Union will reimburse the Company for such payments. The Union agrees to co-operate with the Company in order that disruption of business may be minimized. Leave of Absence for Union Duties. 16.01 The Company agrees that leave of absence without pay but with maintenance of continuous service, seniority and pension rights and benefits to which they would otherwise be entitled shall be granted to a limited number of employees in order to carry out the proper administration of the Agreement or for union educational purposes. Such leave shall not exceed a period of one (1) year but may be subject to renewal at the expiration of one (1) year. At the expiration of the leave, the employee shall be reinstated in the same job he held with the Company when the leave was originally granted, provided such job still exists.
