Leave for Association Business. The Hospital agrees to grant leaves of absence, without pay, to nurses selected by the Association to attend Association business including conferences, conventions and Provincial Committee meetings and to any nurse elected to the position of Local Co-ordinator. The cumulative total leave of absence, the amount of notice, the number of nurses that may be absent at any time from one area and the number of days (including those of the Local Co-ordinator) is set out in the Appendix of Local Provisions. During such leave of absence, a nurse's salary and applicable benefits or percentage in lieu of fringe benefits shall be maintained by the Hospital and the local Association agrees to reimburse the Hospital in the amount of the daily rate of the full-time nurse or in the amount of the full cost of such salary and percentage in lieu of fringe benefits of a part-time nurse except for Provincial Committee meetings which will be reimbursed by the Association. The Hospital will bill the local Association within a reasonable period of time. Part-time nurses will receive service and seniority credit for all leaves granted under this Article.

The Association shall advise the Hospitals’ Central Negotiating Committee as far in advance as possible, of the names of the nurses to be paid under this provision. The Hospitals’ Central Negotiating Committee will make such request known to the affected hospitals. For any unpaid leave of absence under this provision, a full-time nurse's salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the Hospital, and the Association agrees to reimburse the Hospital in the amount of the full cost of such salary. A nurse who is elected to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Nurses' Association, other than to the office of President, shall be granted upon request such of absence as she or he may requireto fulfill the duties of the position. Reasonable notice sufficient to adequately allow the Hospital to minimize disruption of its services shall be given to the Hospital for such leave of absence. NotwithstandingArticle there shall be no loss of seniority or service for a full-time nurse during such leave of absence. There shall be no loss of or service for a part-time nurse during such leave of absence. Leave of absence under this provision shall be in addition to the Association leave provided in Article above. During such leave of absence, the nurse's salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the Hospital and the Association agrees to reimburse the Hospital in the amount of the full cost of such salary and applicable benefits.

The total of such days shall not exceed twenty-five (25) days per annum. No more than one (1) nurse shall be absent from duty at any one (1) time. The Union shall provide as much notice as possible, but in any event, not less than four (4) weeks’ notice. During such leave of absence, the nurse’s salary and applicable benefits shall be maintained by the Employer, and the Association agrees to reimburse the Employer in the amount of the full cost of such salary and applicable benefits.
