Request for Transfers. Within ten working days of the date of publication, an employee may apply for the opening by writing the Human Resources Management offices. When external candidates are interviewed for a position, at least an equal number of internal candidates will be interviewed if letters of application have been received. The Human Resources Management office will acknowledge receipt of an employee’s application and will notify each applicant when the opening has been filled. Openings often occur during the summer months. An employee who wishes to be considered for openings that occur during the summer can apply in June or each year by writing the Human Resources Management office and designating those specific job assignments.

Request for Transfers. Immediately after an opening is made known, an employee desiring consideration shall submit a letter to the office of the Executive Director for Human Resources Management. All transfer requests requesting either general transfers or transfers to previously published specific openings must be received in the office of the Executive Director for Human Resources Management by no later than April 1. Transfer requests received after April 1 but before June 1 will be considered only after transfer requests received by April 1 are processed. The Human Resources department will process transfer requests through July 15, but only if the transfer request was received on or before the June 1 deadline. An employee desiring transfer to an opening known after April 1 and prior to July 15 must have submitted a letter, on or before June 1, to the Executive Director for Human Resources Management, with a copy to the employee’s principal, requesting consideration for the transfer. Employees who have filed a written request of transfer on or before June 1 shall receive, through school mail, a written acknowledgement of the request from the office of the Executive Director for Human Resources Management, within ten working days of the request reaching the office of the Executive Director for Human Resources Management.

In accordance with, but not limited to, operational requirements each apparatus, or section/location within the support divisions, will have a defined number of positions within the following experience categories: • 0 – 5 years • 6 – 10 years • Greater than 10 years • Acting Captain Position (if applicable) Normally each category should have one person assigned to each experience category. When transfers are being considered, each Command will designate five (5) positions for employees with 0 – 5 years experience and/or placement of recruits. These designations will be up­dated on each Transfer Sheet. In situations where there are no applicants that meet the vacant experience category, the senior most applicant’s transfer will be approved, with the exception of the five (5) designated positions identified above. It is understood, under normal conditions, that employees will not be transferred off an apparatus or out of a support section/location for the sole reason that their years of service take them out of an experience category.
