Xxxx Leave Without Pay. Upon written request of an employee, the Human Resources Director may grant leave without pay due to personal illness/injury for up to thirty (30) calendar days and may grant extensions up to a total maximum period of ninety (90) calendar days. Extensions of sick leave without pay up to a maximum of an additional ninety (90) calendar days must be approved by the City Manager. The initial and subsequent requests for sick leave without pay must be accompanied by a physician's certificate stating the nature and approximate duration of medical disability.

Xxxx Leave Without Pay. Upon application by the employee, sick leave without pay may be granted or renewed by the Employer for up to six (6) months after accrued sick leave, vacation and holiday time have been exhausted. When the employee goes into sick leave without pay status the employee will not accrue benefits. The Employer may require that the employee submit a certificate from a physician periodically during the period of such disability.

Employees absent due to illness or injury or to care for a family member, and who have insufficient accrued paid sick leave to cover the entire absence, will move into a sick leave without pay status for any full or partial day absence. Exceptions, to include the use of other accrued paid leave such as vacation or personal holiday in lieu of sick leave without pay, must be authorized by the employee’s Executive Director or designee. Once the employee is in a sick leave without pay status, not previously approved by Xxxxxx Transit, each absence is considered an unexcused absence.

In the event of a failure or refusal to supply such a certificate, or if the certificate does not clearly show sufficient disability to preclude that teacher from the performance of duties, such sick leave may be canceled and the teacher's service terminated.
Xxxx Leave Without Pay. Upon application of a regular employee, a leave of absence without pay may be granted by a hiring authority for the entire period of disability because of sickness or injury. Such leave need not be limited to one (1) year, but the hiring authority or the Executive Director of Employee Services or designee from time to time, may require that the employee submit a certificate from the attending medical professional or from a designated medical professional. In event of a failure or refusal to supply such certificate or if the certificate does not clearly show sufficient disability to preclude employees from the performance of their duties, the hiring authority, with the approval of the Executive Director of Employee Services, may cancel such sick leave and require the employee to report for duty on a specified date.

However, such reduction in salary will not be made for an FLSA- exempt employee to testify on temporary military leave except for full workweek increments where such leave causes an absence of one (1) or more full workweeks.
