Sick Leave - Notice. To be entitled to sick leave during a period, an employee must give the employer notice as soon as reasonably practicable (which may be at a time before or after the sick leave has started) that the employee is (or will be) absent from his or her employment during the period because of a personal illness, or injury, of the employee. This requirement does not apply to an employee who could not comply with it because of circumstances beyond the employee’s control.

Use of sick leave for the reasons discussed in Article 12.3 will not count as an absence from work or an occurrence under the attendance policy, as long as the employee has sick leave balance to cover the time off.
