Payment for Unused Sick Leave Upon Retirement. All professional employees who have served ten (10) or more consecutive years in the Interlocal and/or the Southeast Kansas Special Education Cooperative before retirement will be eligible for additional compensation according to the following schedule: This additional compensation will be $45.00 per day for each day of unused sick leave for those professional employees retiring. Compensation for unused sick leave shall be limited to a maximum of 120 days. The professional employee requesting the above benefits shall notify the Director in writing no later than February 1st of the contracted school year of his/her intention to retire to be eligible to receive these stipulated benefits. In the event the notice is not timely, there shall be a late fee of $150.00 per month or portion thereof through May 31. Any notice received after May 31 shall be considered not timely and thus not eligible for the benefit. The Board may waive the deadline and the late fee in the event of extenuating circumstances.

Employees in the classified service, regardless of service length, shall be entitled to payment for accrued (not pro rata) sick leave (as indicated below), up to their date of retirement. However, employees whose separation is caused by dismissal shall not be entitled to payment for unused sick leave. Payment for Unused Sick Leave Upon Retirement. In the event a teacher or instructional aide who has accumulated sick leave qualifies for a service, age or disability retirement under the New Jersey State pension plan and notifies the Board of Education on or before December 15th of the school budget year in which he or she retires, the Board shall make payment at the beginning of the next school budget year to that teacher or instructional aide in the following amounts: Teachers: through 200 days - $60 per day. Instructional aides: through 160 days - $30 per day. In the event a teacher or instructional aide does not provide the aforementioned notice by December 15th of the school budget year in which he or she plans to retire, the aforementioned payments shall be made at the beginning of the school budget year next following the year in which payment would have been made had timely notice been provided. Should a teacher or instructional aide die any time prior to receipt of such payment, payment shall be made to his or her estate.

Payment for Unused Sick Leave Upon Retirement. Any faculty member who retires after completing at least fifteen (15) years of full-time, continuous service to the College will be paid for accrued, unused sick days that are not used for service credit with the State Universities Retirement System (SURS). Such payment will be based upon the faculty member’s per diem rate of pay at the time of retirement. The amount of such payment will be limited to 25% of the accrued, unused sick days not used for SURS service credit, but not to exceed a maximum of 31.25 sick days.

Payment for Unused Sick Leave Upon Retirement. Effective April 1, 1987, subject to the provisions of the New York State Retirement Law, a permanent employee who enters retirement pursuant to the provisions of the State Retirement System or who is separated from employment with the Authority other than for cause, and has to his or her credit any earned and unused accumulated sick leave, shall be entitled to receive payment for said accumulated sick leave. An individual may use the residual dollar value of any unused sick time, net of taxes and mandated withholding, as of the individual’s last date of employment to pay toward the individual’s health insurance premium contribution during retirement. The Authority will pay for eighty (80%) percent of the earned and unused sick leave which an employee has accrued at the time of his or her retirement or separation at the employee's straight-time base hourly rate. This payment shall be made in a lump sum after the effective date of retirement or separation. In the case of retirement, the remaining twenty (20%) percent of accumulated sick leave will be reported to the New York State Retirement System for pension computation. The following leaves of absence set forth in Sections 2 through 10 inclusive shall not be deductible from accredited sick leave:
