Section 5 - Bereavement Leave. If attending or required to arrange for a funeral on account of the death of any member of his/her immediate family, unit members shall be entitled to three (3) days of paid leave of absence, or five (5) days if travel of more than 200 miles from home is involved. "Immediate family" includes: father, mother, sister, brother, daughter, son, wife, husband, grandmother, grandfather, grandchildren, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sole surviving relative, or any person living in the immediate household of the unit member. Unit members may request approval from Human Resources for Bereavement Leave to be used in relation to the death of a relative not designated as immediate family. The decision of Human Resources to grant or deny such approval shall be final.

An employee may be absent without loss of salary for up to a total of four (4) working days for the death of a member of the employee's immediate family, which shall include father, mother, children, spouse, grandparents, grandchildren, brother, sister, step family or in-laws of like relationship. These days are not to be deducted from sick leave.

Additional leave may be granted upon approval of the Superintendent.

Each member of the bargaining unit shall be entitled to three (3) days bereavement leave 3 or five (5) days if out of state travel or 300 miles or more of travel is required with full 4 pay when absent, when such absence is caused by the death of a member of his/her 5 immediate family. Section 5 - Bereavement Leave. 12 Bereavement leave is defined as one (1) or more days of absence from work duty during normally scheduled 13 hours of work, normal work days, and/or normal work weeks due to the death of the employee's relative(s) as 14 listed herein. Paid bereavement leave will be granted when the employee is required to be absent from work for 15 the reasons of death of the employee's relative(s). Leave for this absence will not exceed five (5) work days for 16 any one occurrence, unless otherwise extended by the recommendation of the employee's supervisor, with the 17 approval of the Superintendent or his/her designee. 18 Such extensions shall be deducted from the employee's sick leave.
