PROCEDURE STEP I. 82 1. An employee with a grievance shall first discuss and try to resolve the matter informally with the University’s Step I Representative. If the matter is not thereby resolved the employee may, within ten (10) working days of the occurrence that gave rise to the grievance, reduce the grievance to writing on forms provided by the University and submit it to the University Step I Representative.

PROCEDURE STEP I. Employees may file a grievance at Step I of the Grievance Procedure if the grievance is presented to the immediate supervisor within ten (10) calendar days of the employee’s having become knowledgeable of the occurrence(s) which is the basis of the grievance, or within thirty(30) calendar days of having begun the informal process of problem resolution involving an ombudsperson. A hearing will be held within five (5) business days of the supervisor’s receipt of the grievance. The supervisor will give her/his written answer to the grievance within five (5) business days of the date of the hearing, or on a date agreed upon by the parties. The supervisor’s answer will include the specific reasons for reaching whatever conclusion is made. If no satisfactory settlement is reached at this level, the grievance may be submitted to Step II of the grievance procedure. In order to assist the employee in the presentation of her/his grievance, the employee and her/his representative(s) will have access to the employee’s personnel file and other information which is identified as being pertinent to the employee’s complaint.

If the grievance involves more than one group of employees, it may be filed at Step II of the grievance process. STEP I REPLY Within five (5) school days of receipt of the written grievance, the principal or appropriate supervisor shall meet with the grievant in an effort to resolve the grievance. The principal or appropriate supervisor shall indicate the disposition of the grievance in writing within five (5) school days of such meeting and shall furnish a copy thereof to the Association. If the Association is not satisfied with the disposition of the grievance, within five (5) school days after receipt of same, or if no disposition has been made within five (5) school days of such meeting or ten (10) days from date of filing, whichever shall be later, the grievance shall be transmitted to Step II.
