Policy Decisions. Any faculty member may make an independent recommendation on any policy decision in writing to the Board, provided the faculty member first attempts in good faith to have his/her recommendation incorporated into the administration’s recommendation, and provided further that his/her alternate recommendation is sent to the District President in writing at least 48 hours prior to any regularly scheduled Board meeting. Notice of the Board’s consideration of any policy issue shall be published four or more days in advance of any scheduled Board meeting.

Assessing risks • The Trust will take all reasonable precautions to prevent access to inappropriate material. However, due to the international scale and linked nature of Internet content, it is not possible to guarantee that unsuitable material will never appear on a computer connected to the Trust network. The Trust cannot accept liability for any material accessed, or any consequences of Internet access. • The Trust audit ICT use to establish if the e-Safety policy is adequate and that the implementation of the e-Safety policy is appropriate and effective. Handling e-Safety complaints • Complaints of Internet misuse will be dealt with by a senior member of staff. • Complaints of a child protection nature must be dealt with in accordance with Trust Child Protection Policy and Procedures. (See Appendix 3) • Students and parents will be informed of the complaints procedure (see Trust Complaints Policy) • Students and parents will be informed of consequences for students misusing the Internet. • Discussions will be held with the Police Youth Crime Reduction Officer to establish procedures for handling potentially illegal issues.

Communicating the Policy: Introducing the e-Safety Policy to pupils • e-Safety rules will be displayed in all classrooms and the ICT suite and discussed with the pupils at the start of each year. Specific lessons will be taught by class teachers at the beginning of every year and at relevant points throughout e.g. during PDMU lessons/circle times/anti-bullying week. • Pupils will be informed that network and Internet use will be monitored. . Reducing online risks • St Anthony’s is aware that the Internet is a constantly changing environment with new apps, tools, devices, sites and material emerging at a rapid pace. • Emerging technologies will be examined for educational benefit and the school leadership team will ensure that appropriate risk assessments are carried out before use in school is allowed. • The school will ensure that appropriate filtering and monitoring systems are in place to prevent staff and pupils from accessing unsuitable or illegal content. • The school will take all reasonable precautions to ensure that users access only appropriate material. However, due to the global and connected nature of Internet content, it is not always possible to guarantee that access to unsuitable material will never occur via a school computer or device. • The school will audit technology use to establish if the online safety (e–Safety) policy is adequate and that the implementation of the policy is appropriate. • Methods to identify, assess and minimise online risks will be reviewed regularly by the schools leadership team.
