Educational Benefit. Section 34.1. Members as well as spouses and dependents shall be eligible for the educational benefits provided by the Educational Assistance and Tuition Waiver Policy3364-25-35 and the Institutional Aid Policy 3364-30-53.

Educational Benefit. If benefits are payable under this benefit provision for an injury that requires you to change occupations, Great-West Life will pay the tuition fees for enrolling you as a student at a post-secondary institution for training in a new occupation. To qualify for an educational benefit, you must enrol at a post-secondary institution within 365 days after the accident. Great-West Life will pay up to . Educational Benefit. Effective January 1, 2015, each Officer shall be eligible to participate in the Police Officers Educational Assistance Plan (the “Plan”), which shall qualify under Section 127 of the Internal Revenue Code. The Plan shall provide for a maximum annual benefit of $8,000.00 and a maximum lifetime benefit of $24,000.00. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary herein, any educational benefit paid to or on behalf of an officer by the Township during the 2010-2014 contract and any previous contracts, shall be included in the determination of the amount of benefits paid under the Plan and toward calculating whether on Officer has reached the $24,000 maximum benefit. Per the Internal Revenue Service Code Publication 15-B (2014), “work related” shall be defined as: “Educational assistance means amounts you pay or incur for your employees' education expenses. These expenses generally include the cost of books, equipment, fees, supplies, and tuition. However, these expenses do not include the cost of a course or other education involving sports, games, or hobbies, unless the education: Has a reasonable relationship to your business.” In order to obtain reimbursement under this Section, an Officer must submit an itemized receipt from the institution detailing payments from all sources, including federal and state aid, GI Bill, etc. The Township will only reimburse the Officer for amounts expended by the officer after any other of the above sources are applied. Any amounts from sources other than directly paid by the Officer (federal and state aid, GI Bill, etc.) shall not be counted toward the above cap on educational reimbursement. Prior to enrolling in a course for which an Officer will seek reimbursement, the Officer must receive advanced approval from the Chief of Police and Township
