Certificate of Competence. The employee, while performing the job duties in the higher classification as stated in subparagraph (1) above has demonstrated an ability to perform the work in that higher job classification competently, in the Director ’s sole discretion. The qualification of competence shall be evidenced by a certificate executed by the Department Director.

Certificate of Competence a) A Registered Practical Nurse is required to present to their respective Program Director or her designate on or before February 15th of each year, evidence that her Certificate of Registration is in good standing and currently in effect. Such time will be extended for reasons where the College of Registered Practical Nurses of Ontario permits the Registered Practical Nurses Certificate of Registration to remain in effect. If the Registered Practical Nurse’s Certificate of Registration is suspended by the College of Registered Practical Nurses of Ontario for non-payment of the annual fee, the Registered Practical Nurse will be placed on non-disciplinary suspension without pay. If the Practical Nurse presents evidence that her Certificate of Registration has been reinstated, she shall be reinstated to her position effective upon presenting such evidence. Should the Registered Practical Nurse be unable to provide evidence of qualification after 90 days from the College of Nurses of Ontario he/she shall be permanently removed from the classification and allowed to exercise all bumping rights, under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
