Bursaries and Scholarships. The University has been awarded 114 places under the National Scholarship Scheme which we will match. The University will use this scheme to support its commitment to excellence. Places will be allocated (in excess of 228 if required) to all students with a verified household income at or below £25,000 who meet our offer requirements and achieve at least 170 UCAS tariff points at AS level from three subjects taken together at first sitting. If less than 228 students qualify, we will reduce the specified tariff score until all places have been allocated. The £3,000 awards will be given as a £1,000 cash bursary with a £2,000 contribution to university accommodation costs. Students who do not take up accommodation will be given a £2,000 fee waiver. We also intend to continue our successful bursary and scholarship schemes for:  Excellence Scholars  High Achievers  Access  Care LeaversXxxxxx Xxxxxxx bursaries  Academic Merit The Excellence Scholarship Scheme (Entrance) provides bursaries of £1,000 in year 1 and £500 in years 2 and 3 to students who demonstrate excellence in Sport, Creative Arts, Performance Art and Volunteering. Applications are required and awards are made on the basis of open competition. A similar scheme operates for on-course students with bursaries of £500 available. The High Achievers bursary is worth £1,000 on entry and is awarded to any student covered by this agreement who achieves at least 360 UCAS points at A2. Access Scholarships worth £1,000 in year 1 and £500 in years 2 and 3 are awarded by nomination to students from the Access to HE programme who have demonstrated particular commitment in the face of adversity. This scholarship particularly benefits mature students. Bursaries of £750 per annum are awarded to Care Leavers. The University supports up to 4 Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx bursaries (£1,000) each year. A range of academic merit scholarships are awarded to recognise achievement in year 1. Not only do these schemes have a proven track record of supporting commitment and providing important ways of celebrating achievement but our Scholarship students also act as mentors and student ambassadors in our aspiration-raising activities. It is anticipated that the Scholarship schemes will be extended to cover part-time students when approval for fee regulation has been granted. We estimate that 50% of the University’s Scholarship funding will support under- represented students. Further scheme details are on the University’s website.
Bursaries and Scholarships. The main characteristics of the generous bursaries and scholarships funded from additional fee income can be simply described as follows: • Bursaries, known as Standard Bursaries, will be awarded to full-time undergraduate students from England and Wales with a household income of £39,305 or less (uplifted for inflation in subsequent years), and who are in receipt of a full or partial maintenance grant. The total given for this will be £500 per student per year. A student repeating a year of undergraduate study is only eligible for bursary support for the repeated year if they are in receipt of a full maintenance grant. • Royal Xxxxxxxx Excellence Scholarships of £500 per year will be awarded to excellent students from England and Wales with a household income of £39,305 or less (uplifted for inflation in subsequent years), and who are in receipt of a full or partial maintenance grant. These students must also achieve 320 UCAS tariff points (grades ABB at GCE A-level) or equivalent in those specific subject elements of their academic qualifications which are specified in their Royal Xxxxxxxx UCAS offer as requirements for admission for their programme of undergraduate study at the College; • Founder’s Scholarships of £3500 per year will be offered to outstanding students from England and Wales with a household income of £39,305 or less (uplifted for inflation in subsequent years), and who are in receipt of a full or partial maintenance grant. These scholarships will be competitive, made on application and will be awarded by a Bursaries and Scholarships Panel; • Bedford Scholarships of £1000 per year will be offered to outstanding students irrespective of household income. These scholarships will be competitive, made on application, and will be awarded by a Bursaries and Scholarships Panel. The Bursaries and Scholarship Panel will be required to consider groups under-represented in higher education in making these awards. It is estimated that 42% of Bedford Scholarships will go to under-represented groups. • Masters Scholarships (equal to the standard tuition fee) will be offered on a competitive basis to students from England and Wales who begin undergraduate programmes in Royal Xxxxxxxx in or after 2006, who are in receipt of a Standard Bursary in their final year of undergraduate study, and who achieve a 2.1 degree or better. The College will conduct an annual review of the bursaries and scholarships funded from additional fee income. Minor adjustments m...

Bursaries and Scholarships. We estimate that about 7,000 students in financial need will be supported per year, by qualifying for either a bursary or a scholarship, and the annual outlay to students will be £4.6m in current terms, plus the cost of administering these schemes, currently not calculated. Of this figure at least £3.3m can be directly attributed to students from underrepresented groups. Our schemes are summarised below.
