Bereavement and Serious Illness Leave. For the death, or life threatening illness, of an employee’s immediate family members, or his/her spouse’s immediate family members, the teacher will be granted three (3) days leave per contract year without deduction. If all contracted bereavement leave has been used, an employee will be permitted to use up to two sick leave days during any one contract year.

Bereavement and Serious Illness Leave. 13.05.1 Provided that the Teacher has given verbal notification to the Principal or designate prior to the taking of the leave, the Teacher will be granted absence from duty because of bereavement or serious illness in the Teacher’s immediate family up to, but not exceeding five (5) school days on each occasion, with pay and benefits outlined in Article12 (Benefits). For example, leave will be granted to accompany an immediate family member, suffering from a serious illness, to an out of town appointment/procedure with a medical specialist providing the Teacher submits a doctor’s certificate attesting to the purpose of the visit.
Bereavement and Serious Illness Leave. 16.01 Employees will be granted three (3) working days off with full pay (or five (5) working days if required to travel beyond a 250 miles or 400 km radius) in the case of bereavement or serious illness (life-threatening condition or an emergency that could result in serious complications that could result in death) in the immediate family. Immediate family shall mean spouse, children, legal wards, mother, father, sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, grandparent-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, first cousin and fiancé(e). Such leave may be extended by mutual consent of employee and Employer. Employee will be granted one (1) day leave of absence per year to attend the funeral of a close personal friend. Attendance at a funeral will be defined as the service and/or ceremonies that are the makeup of the funeral. This includes memorial services, visitation services, and all observance and rituals associated with one’s religious/cultural beliefs. Spouse shall be defined as a partner of either sex who has co-habitated with the employee in a conjugal relationship for at least one (1) year.

  • Critical Illness Leave (i) An Employee who has completed at least ninety (90) days of employment, and is a family member of a critically ill child or a critically ill qualified adult relative, is entitled to leave of absence without pay or benefits: • for a period of up to thirty-six (36) weeks to care for their critically ill child; or, • for a period of up to sixteen (16) weeks to care for a critically ill qualified adult relative.

Such obligations may exist because of blood or family ties or because of particular cultural requirements such as attendance at all or part of a Tangihanga (or its equivalent). The length of time off shall be at the discretion of the employer.

Extended Illness Leave, hereinafter referred to as “EIL” shall be established for Administrative Support Group, XXXX, Clerical, and Educational Assistant personnel who are absent due to their own personal illness or injury following the exhaustion of their accumulated illness, vacation and annual allotment of short term leave. Eligibility for Extended Illness Leave includes completion of employee’s probationary period.

  • Bereavement Leave (a) Upon the death of an employee's spouse, spouse to include same sex partner, child or stepchild, an employee shall be granted leave up to a maximum of five (5) continuous calendar days without loss of pay. One of the days of leave shall include the day of the funeral or equivalent service. Additional days off with or without pay may be granted by the Employer. Part-time employees will be credited with seniority and service for all such leave.
