Surplus employees. 9.04 If layoffs within a department are required, the Company will proceed to declare employees surplus in reverse order of seniority within the department.
Surplus employees. A probationary employee is an employee who has not acquired seniority. A probationary employee shall acquire seniority after fifty (50)calendar days of employment from the date of hire. Clock numbers will be assigned to multiple people being hired on the same day alphabetically by their last name. The seniority date will be the date of hire with order of seniority governed by the clock number for those hired with the same seniority date. This applies only to those hired on or after March A probationary employee may be released at the discretion of the Company. Any employee from a department shall have first rights to return to that department, according to seniority for days, provided they had worked in that department a minimum of complete shifts in the preceding six (6)months. Regardless of seniority, members of the plant Negotiating and Grievance Committee will be maintained at work in their department, providing work is available that he is willing and able to do. If no such work is available in his department he shall have the same opportunity within the plant, by displacing the junior employee. If a surplus exists in Job Specific and the employee came from the department, the employee stays in that department. If a surplus exists in Job specific and the employee came directly to Job Specific from another department, the employee will return to his former department unless the department does not exist. In this case, the employee will remain in that department. In the above cases, if the surplus Job Specific person is the junior person or replaces the junior person in the department to where he returns, revert to (a), above. During a summer shutdown period, employees who do not have sufficient vacation hours to fulfil the requirements of the shutdown period will not be allowed to exercise seniority into another department unless the resulting layoff is in excess of days.
